  • Thank you for your reply dmg, however, me and my boyfriend are in the same position and share everything equally at the moment. However, if i did have a pay cut, we would be about £700 short every month which is quite alot! We just simply wouldnt be able to do it.

    Thank you for your suggestion.

I know it does not feel like it at the moment, but you can do it. Many people have to live on less than SSP long term. If you have a look around the boards you will find lots of moneysaving ideas.
    Gone ... or have I?

I lost my dad 2 years ago. At 1st I threw myself into work, studying, socialising, helping my mum to overcome her grief, basically anything but deal with my own.

About 6 or 7 months later I fell apart - in the bakery aisle at asda, I just threw myself on the floor and sobbed like a child, while a poor member of staff got me a chair & glass of water.

The following day I saw my Dr who signed me off on the sick, prescribed meds & referred me for counselling.

During my time off I allowed myself to grieve & a couple of weeks later, I was back at work (phased return) & beginning counselling. It's a long journey, you need to give it time & be kind to yourself.

Long-term neither 'moping around at home' or throwing yourself into work is the answer.

If you need a week off, then take a week off, try not to worry too much about the money as you'll easily get by for that week or so, but make sure you keep yourself active in your time off - get out in the fresh air, take some exercise, meet up with friends, whatever makes you feel better.

Perhaps you could speak to your employer about dropping your hours for a few weeks til you get back on your feet, if you feel that you really can't take any time off.

I am already on the waiting list to see a bereavement counsellor, but as it is on the NHS the waiting list is very long! In the mean time i have made an appointment with my doctor to discuss what else there is i can do while i wait for an appointment with the counsellor.

Can you afford to pay for a counsellor until you get an NHS appointed one? That way you get to grips with your issues and feel supported while you work, therefore no drop in income. The last one I used cost about £30 a session, though I was aware of low or no cost counselling offered by some local organisations who use more recent graduates of counselling courses who are working towards professional accreditation.

You also say you are over worried about burdening your friends with your problems. Consider contacting the Samaritans - they aren't just for people contemplating suicide but for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair.
