...mind you though, the way things are going it wont be long before people are trying to claim for it lol .
A friend of mine has it. If they touch anything in the freezer cabinet in the supermarket, or even something as simple as a cold door handle, their hands can turn white, go completely numb, and become effectively useless. It can take hours to return to normal.

Reynauds can be mild enough to be merely an inconvenience, or it can be so severe as to be crippling.

Yeah ,I could choose not to cope and claim too I couldn't live with myself though ,if me claiming might mean things are made more difficult and some poor person with some crippling disability and very poor quality of life have a hard time getting a claim through because of too many free loaders .But then I have a conscience

hmm weird.... My fingers and toes go blue and really ice cold (thought it look like being an extra out of silent witness LOL) and when they warm up they literally burn in the most horrible way. I just thought that was normal.

I wear bed socks and gloves oh and a hat to stop the heat escaping from my head! Seems to not be working as well as before but that could be because of my breathing.... thanks for the tips guys will take a look at the links and ask for something for christmas!

  • wssla00 - might be worth going to the docs for some tablets to take during winter?...although dont expect miracles! In my experience nothing works as well as not getting cold to begin with

  • I have not been diagnosed officially but I suffer from cold hands and feet and they turn white, bright raspberry and purplish blue...like a dead person. My hands are so icy cold that sometimes cold tap water feels warmer but most of the time it's difficult for me to wash vegetables during the winter and I end up washing veggies under the hot tap :o Does anyone do this? Since I purchased a slow cooker, I only have to suffer once every 4/5 meals as I cook a big batch thus cutting down on cooking/washing chores.

Me too, tap water always feels warmer. Dealing with potatoes is the hardest as they have so many little lumps and bumps to hold dirt. My girls get it worse though - the youngest wears gloves in class as she can't hold a pen when it's cold outside. I have difficulty typing, as my 10 digit 180wpm (was my job) degenerates into about 45 with 3 fingers working, and I avoid writing when possible.

Just got them both microwave furry slipper boots - they contain a lavender scented wheatbag in them. As long as I only micro them for a minute rather than the two the instructions demand, they have worn them almost non stop since Christmas day - including at night.

The most worrying is when you can't feel your feet with the cold and don't notice you've cut them or a sharp toenail has ulcerated another one until someone else spots the blood when you fall over in the kitchen holding a pan of boiling soup.

But hey, I accept help of all kinds, financial and practical, as I have found that being a sour faced martyr does nothing to retain friends and support networks. Doesn't make me any more or less of a good/bad person, it just makes me a bit more pragmatic than the esoterically minded on the forum.

  • Hello,

I've had raynauds for several years now, some simple measures do help me avoid triggering an attack. They work for me but may not work for everybody.

I've found that it helps to keep a pair of gloves handy at all times (theres always a spare pair in the car / bottom of the handbag)....it can look a bit daft doing the shopping in a pair of gloves in the summer but some places have the air conditioning on full blast and it's enough to trigger the problem!

I find it helps to wear gloves when getting anything out of the freezer.

Its best to go for lined gloves with a bit of space in them as "finger pinchers" or tight gloves are worse than useless and can make things worse.

Wrap up well in cold weather with plenty of layers, if you keep your core body temperature at a reasonable temperature and avoid getting excessively cold then the blood flowing to your fingers, toes and nose will be quite warm and you should be less likely to suffer an attack.

Avoid thin soled shoes, especially in cold weather. Invest in thick walking socks, not exactly glamorous but really cosy.

    Hope this helps!

I suffer badly from Raynaud's (correct spelling) too. This photo was taken a couple of days ago - this is how I get INSIDE with the heating/fire on and they stay like this for upto several hours no matter what I do to warm up.

I can't believe how many people claim they have this and say 'my hands get so cold'. It's not just about your hands getting cold, for goodness sake!

Don't give me that disability crap either. It's bad circulation not a disability. DLA MY A**E!!!!!!! It's people like that who will get their DLA taken off them in the near future, and rightly so. People with this condition need to get more active instead of sitting there whinging about it (and yes that includes me).
