I agree to the blackbirds we have lots coming and going in our garden, lots of little sparrows too today, my little girl loves sitting watching them at the patio doors (who needs kids telly eh?)

Not much gardeing here either as its sooo cold! Cleared the shed out instead lol

Lovely to see the children getting interested.

Freezing again here and a bit windy, when will we have some lovely gardening weather :(

Got carried away today and sowed (probably far too many) seeds in modules, beans and mange tout peas in loo roll centres and potted on some tomato plants that I was given. ..... and then the sun came out :T:T:T

Found this on my local BBC website (Tees) & wondered if it would be useful to anyone on here:

It's 'What to do in your garden in May' :)

We had a 'scrape your windscreen' frost here this morning & I forgot to bring my bedding plants in last night, they seem to have survived though thank goodness :D

Should I be worried, they are in 2 potato bags and they had been doing relly well so not sure if it's been the frost or the rain and hail today, what do you think.

Been watching daddy blackbird feed worms to his babies while sheltering from the hail under a shrub. There's little else I dare do, apart from pray. Minus 1c forecast for tonight. No room to give all the plants shelter. Strawberry plants are no more, no idea what the potatoes are doing, pansies and primulas not happy. The lettuce is doing well. Why? Ah well.
A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.

We;ve planted our potatoes in bags but in a fairly well sheltered part of our garden so hoping they survive the bitter cold winds we seem to keep having.
Violas I planted last autumn are doing very well.......even the strawberry plants have come round -really thought we'd lose them.
This month is very much a 'wait and see' time I think.
I'm getting no bedding plants till way past end of may.
Seems everything is about 3 weeks behind this year.
Just wish it would warm up...........for my benefit and the plants..........;)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Sunny and only warm in the sheltered spots.
Went to my friends to dig up the Hydrangea, what a job, it's quite big but we did it, well, husband did it, it's planted and well watered, some of the branches look sad but hopefully they'll perk up, we got plenty soil around the root ball.
Have spent the afternoon in the garden and really enjoyed it, a bit stiff now though but it's a great feeling.

Hope you all had a good day.

Mrs Blackbird had 5 eggs a few days ago but I found one on the ground yesterday. Stone cold unfortunately. I am giving her some peace and quiet to get on with her 'confinement'.

Had a wander around the garden centre yesterday and was horrified at some of the prices.

Cabbage and lettuce seedlings £3.49 for 9 !!:eek:

And worse still....... 18 radish seedlings for £3.49!!!:eek::eek:

Okay, hands up who would be tempted?

Also saw a seed potato in a 6" pot with approx 3" of growth for 50p. Now there is a business opportunity I hadn't thought of.

There is a plant sale on monday, wednesday and Saturdays outside Lloyds bank/St Hilda Church at South shields town. The prices are reasonable and way cheaper than other nurseries.
