Did you get your car back? What loss do you want to claim for?

Possible the pointless cost of the repairs he carried out?

he has been given 2 months to comply with a notice of closure. he is still open as i drove past today.

this has caused alot of distress to my family because thinking about the risks we were at by driving about in it for 3/4 weeks! anything could of happened.

i have e-mailed consumer direct, my local solicitor, my local counciler.

But nothing happened, why are you stressing over what would of happened when nothing did. You need to move on as feelings like that do no-one any good.

Write to him and ask for your expenses to be paid back in regards to fixing the other car which turned out to be a w/o. Tell him he has 14 days to pay else you will persue it through the small claims court. It will cost you £30 to file a claim which you will get back if you win.

Why did national newspapers bother with him? I assume he is now out of business, so where would you get compensation from? You seem to have been quite lucky in the circumstances - at least you still have a car. Have you spoken to your local Trading Standards?

I think that's "The Express and Star" not "The Daily Express" and "The Star".
The Express and Star is a local paper somewhere in the Midlands I think.

Also the biggest difference between a small trader and a private seller as far as I can tell is that the trader has more experience at getting rid of cars that they don't want. Neither are as dodgy as traders that pose as private sellers though .

hi, yes, the pointless repairs i paid for.

    45.00 for throttle cable
125.00 for cam seals and timing belt
    75.00 for new radiator
    25.00 for a parcel shelf(was missing)

thats over 250.00 i shelled out for nothing!

yes, the express and star is a local paper in the midlands.

it was lane head car sales, high road, willenhall, west midlands

yes, i did get my car back but he failed to give me back the glovebox handbook and all my history receipts, i only had the cambelt replaced and top engine re-build 2 months prior to sale so the receipts were the guarentee for that work.

Then pursue him for that list - he should certainly return your property. Go to Trading Standards and to CAB. Do it ASAP as Ive no doubt he has limited resources available if any. Tricky sort of person probably has all property in the wife's name. :( We had a similar thing re a builder some years back - he is living the life of Riley in Spain now, leaving a trail of small businesses bankrupt. Its sickening.

I know you must feel cr*ppy about this, I certainly would, but you have at least got your own car back, I bet there are others who came out with nothing.

I agree with hethmar though, get it done ASAP, before he disappears and you have no idea where he is. Try and get his name and address as a director so you can persue him at his home address if need be. If you look for long enough you'll be able to find it. Try 192.com you might have to buy credits though.

If he is a limited company, you can go to companies house web site, look it up and buy the info on him for about £3.

i sent a recorded delivery letter advising that if he didnt pay my out of pocket expenses then i would persue legal action.

letter sent tuesday at noon, wednesday at noon i had a cheque hand delivered to my address for £500.

i am very happy with the outcome. trading standards are paying him a visit next week. they were impressed with the result too.
