Three/3 mobile broadband 5gb £12 per month

Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been posted - I did a search and couldn't see anything but you never know!

I've just come across a code which reduces the 18 month 5gb 3 mobile broadband contract from £15 to £12 per month :) I'm assuming this sim can be used in a mifi device (please correct me if I'm wrong...) so it seems a great offer in preparation for the Ipad!

It's the top one on here - promotional code is MBB3OFF

Enjoy :j

I would not touch 3 with a bargepole.I had a monthly contract phone and dongle broadband with them and have just cancelled.Customer services are useless, reading from the usual script ,and they do not reply to your letters.(Even the manager at the 3 store did not have a good word to say about customer services)I was spending anything from £30.00 to £75.00 a month with them and they had a chance to sort it out.Someone from sales rang me the other day and I told him the story and he told me the director should be told about it(I get the impression their customer services make life difficult for them when they then are trying to sell to customers like me!)
May be fine if you do not have any problems, but if you do, good luck!.

Its only a good deal if the service is usable and you don't have any desire to join the modern revolution and do 'modern' things like watch streaming media, use Skype / Utube / Iplayer, or upload / email all of those 1mb - 2mb holiday photos in your digital camera!.

5gb may have been considered a lot back in 2001 with 512kbs connections but it fails to impress in 2010 in an age of new bandwidth hogging facilities being offered all of the time.

My experience of '3' is also hit and miss, having had to pay £27 for an Antenna just to get their HSDPA service in 2 zones which according to their coverage map, should be obtainable routinely!.

I use my 3 dongle away from home and in some areas (even motorway services) their coverage is dire, often dropping connection or falling back to the 2G services provided by Orange. I can see how they can afford to offer 5gb of bandwidth when their service is running at no more than 56k in some areas!. Even in a hotel recently, with a cell mast in the distance, i've never had the full advertised 3.6mb/s speed, usually getting between 120 - 800kbps with the booster antenna connected and a close eye on my rapidly dwindling bandwidth monitor.

Besides, why do people make out that £12 for 5GB is some kind of bargain!. If this was a conventional broadband offer that we were talking about then there would be an outcry, yet for some reason because its Mobile Broadband this price for such a low bandwidth figure is classed as a bargain!. Wow!, as consumers we must be every Mobile Broadband sales operators' wet dream!

When are we going to see Mobile Providers pitching against conventional operators and offering similar value for money?. When are we going to see a mobile broadband operator with the balls to offer a decent allowance for the average daily internet user living in the digital age?. 20gb, 30gb or even, dare I say it - 40gb allowances?.

I wouldn't advise anybody tying themselves into a contract with 3 until they have tested their service. Far better to buy a 2nd hand unlocked dongle, get a cheap 3 sim from Ebay and test the service for yourself in the location(s) where you intend to use it. Personally I find its service is patchy even in built up areas, and have needed to invest in more equipment just to get the promised service well inside of the coverage boundaries.

Having an 18 month contract, if you happen to be outside of the high speed area (I find a lot of places still are) and getting little more than dial up speeds afforded by its roaming agreement with Orange would be a foolish thing to do as it probably won't impress you - especially not at £12 a month.

In addition, if you go over your monthly allowance on a '3' contract you'll get stung silly prices for over bandwidth usage. £100 a GB I believe. Far safer to stay on PAYG and just lose your service when you use up your allowance, rather than risk a nasty surprise when the bill arrives.

well if u dont have a phone line or cable options then mobile broadband is the only option. my mate is on 3 and doesnt have any problems with the 5gb, fine for watching youtube, browsing, facebook, msn, downloading mp3s etc..seems fast enough.

but i would never go on a 12 month+ contract, much better to be on the 1 month £15 contract

the PAYG options seem alot more expensive..
