The premium does go up when you notify the Insurance that DS has passed test as then will be driving unsupervised.

Ours did not but we had to pay an admin fee only. It just goes to show that all insurance companies and circumstances are differant.

    Who's that with?
My daughter is just learning to drive, and we're after cheap quotes as well.
Currently with collingwood, they were a fair bit cheaper than marmalade, but they only insure provisional.

Remember cheapest is not always the best - go and speak to a reliable broker. Depending on how many vehicles you have in your family it might be possible to have a family fleet policy which might work out at a farily reasonable rate. We were able to secure a very good quote for our 17 year old, as the insurance company were prepared to give a starter bonus (policy in her own name) because we had two vehicles with them, both with drivers over 50 and both with full NCB.

However please remember that all quotes depend on type of vehicle and also very importantly postcode. The quote for a 17 year old in Devon is likely to be cheaper than a similar car/driver based in Manchester.

For Admiral/Elephant you should take note that the comparison sites are showing 12 month policy prices. Go to their sites and you can change this to 10 months (so Admiral could be £650-700), plus if your 'fronting' the 17 yo will get 1 years NCD (only usable with that insurer, but should help.)

I used to work for a software house dealing with insurance quotations, so I know quite a lot about a few insurers!
