Car insurance for 17 year old

Another query - can one build up full comp no claims discount by initially taking out third party fire & theft?
If you are looking at the Third Party Fire & Theft route, can we make the assumption that the car is not going to be worth much? When I first passed my car test, I drove an old banger for a year. It had a couple of extra dents in the side by the end of it, but I wouldn't have bothered claiming for them as the cost of repair would have written the car off!!
Equally, I wouldn't have bothered making a claim if the car had been stolen or burst into flames, so I opted for Third Party Only cover (it doesn't cover damage to your car at all; just damage to other cars, people and their property) and saved enough money to pay for breakdown cover. Let's face it; an old banger is more likely to grind to a halt than burst into flames!!
NCD is NCD, regardless of how you earn it. The only thing you can't do is use 1 lot of NCD on 2 cars.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

Not correct these days.
eg Morethan will not only let you use 1 lot of NCD on another car, they will also give an extra discount if you add on a second car.0 -

Still stalking me then, Quentin? Are you really that sad and lonely?

I know the OP is 17!!
He is highly unlikely to be wanting to use his (non existent) NCD on 2 cars is he?
You are the one who authoritatively posted this incorrect info:
I pointed out this was wrong, and it is now possible to use i1 lot on 2 cars, what's your beef?0 -
Thanks again for the replies.
Qoute - appreciate the links. Having just read through the first two, it is interesting to note the amounts being bantered about. £2,000 - £3,000. I went on comparison sites Confused and Gocompare and for comparison obtained quotes for me as main driver and son as named driver, as well as the other way round. Both came up with a number of insurers quoting around £1,500, but there was no difference to who is main and who is named. Interestingly, Confused had one from Admiral quoting just over £800 with me as main but when putting son as main, Quinn Direct popped up quoting £950.
Oscar, your assumption is correct.Notlob0 -
what's your beef?
My "beef" is that you are a stalker. You follow me round this forum because you clearly have nothing better to do. Why don't you get the message? I'm not interested in your purile and juvinile attempts to get me angry or upset. Now get on with your life and I'll get on with mine.In the beginning, the universe was created. I correct your bad advice, and your grumpy response is to abuse me and call me a stalker!
Come off it.0 -
Not interested any more, Mr Stalker. Go play with someone else.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

If you are considering TPFT because your car is worth little, and you don't envisage making any claim for your own damage, and really want to have the cheapest legal cover only, then try doing comprehensive quotes, but taking a massive voluntary excess.
eg swiftcover let you take £1000 excess irrespective of the car's value.
Sometimes compehensive cover like this can be cheaper than TPFT, and you do get the windscreen cover included (which has a separate excess).0 -
Unless you're planning on using your own genuine NCD I would be very surprised if these prices are correct. As for even mentioning Quinn - LoL.Interestingly, Confused had one from Admiral quoting just over £800 with me as main but when putting son as main, Quinn Direct popped up quoting £950.
