Can o2 not block sim, not wanting to exceed monthly minutes

Have switched from PAYG to contract on O2 for Teenage Son.Prev had a deal on 3 but switched as DS not happy with phone.
Whilst with 3 I had the sim blocked so he wouldn't exceed his minutes. Contacted o2 & they state they can't do this. Find it a bit strange that a BIG company like them don't have that facility, just wondered if anyone else knew any different ????????????
Or can give any advice as its becoming a problem with him exceeding his minutes most months.

They were right, it's not possible to do so.

To overcome it, watch the usage or go on a higher tariff. :T

Only some networks allow you to set the credit limit at £0.

Tell him for every minute or text he goes over he looses his phone for an hour the following month. He will soon stop.

Remember that the networks make a small amount if you only use the inclusive minutes/texts but if you go over they make a lot more.

3 are the only network that allow a zero credit limit to be set as far as i know. i believe some others allow a low limit eg £50

T-Mobile are the only network that do a 'fixed tariff' for scenerios exactly like this.

You pay a fixed monthly charge for x mins and x texts. If you exceed it, the phone can not make any calls. HOWEVER, the user of the phone can go to a shop and do a PAYG style top up to allow further calls to be made. Therefore you prevent massive phone bills being run up.

T-Mobile only do this on sim only plans.... check out any of them which have the phrase 'fixed', on the end.

Pretty sure they have stopped them?

Note operators have a clause, the credit limit should not be used as a budgetting tool. Basically it will not always stop it working.

Tesco have started a Capped monthly tarrif once you hit the limit you top it up like PAYG

Needs to be taken out in store so depends if your tesco has the phone shop in it.
