Ah... I was only aware of the ebay boards strike discussions. Had no idea other boards existed :)

There are a number and some are hilarious, the foolish advising the 'haven't a clue'. They do sometimes carry some quite interesting threads though which is why I drop in every now and then, but they tend to get quite a bit of spam which starts flame wars and then it all just gets nasty.

I had no idea of other boards as well - I suppose it makes sense really just like there is one on here. I have just been watching the one on eBay.

I don't like the Q&A boards really, you post something and people get nasty. I was browsing one day and found some !!!!!! and questioned could/would it be removed as it was listed under something else and when you clicked into it a !!!!!! picture came in. I was quite annoyed that the kids could have seen it and then everyone started taking the pics from my items I was selling, cutting them down and putting them all on the board saying I was the same when I was selling underwear. I haven't really posted there since as I really couldn't beleive people could be this way. Sad really.

I am glad the media are on it. I did send an email myself to a rather large tabloid newspaper so fingers crossed they will get onto it. Nothing like a bit of bad publicity and eBay seem to get much of the good stuff - how I made my first million on eBay and all that. About time they get negative publicity as well - despite all their money they are doubling or tripling their fees for shop sellers.

Does anyone use eBid? I'm starting to look at it after this whole ebay fee scam.

Ebay increase the fees but give us extra exposure (we're happy), take away the extra exposure and keep the fees high (ebay happy). I still believe this was ebay's intentions all along (to remove exposure and keep high fees).

Does eBid work in a similar way to eBay? What are the catches with using eBid? Any other alternatives?

It's not usually quite that bad, perhaps the trolls were a bit out of control that day. I know it can be an intimidating board but there is a wealth of information there, and some very experienced ebayers posting.

Best thing to do before going to the Q&A is get a posting ID. There are a lot of nutters out there (on this board too :)) and it's better not to let people scrutinise your items and methods... or worse - auction wreck you for fun.

You can also report your own posts to get them removed quickly if the thread gets out of hand.

There's a site called Mightybids which donates about 5 per cent of its fees to environmental good causes. When I can be bothered to go through the hoo ha of the registration process, I think I'll sign up for these alternative auction sites.

Would be interested to hear of anyone else's experience with mightybids - I'm not even sure if it covers the UK!

Have not had any experience of Mightybids but eBid looks quite good and nothing to lose by giving it a try. I can't see any catch, it is free to lis, free stores if you are a Gold Member and you can buy a gold package for £2.99 for 30 days (ideal for a trail) or you buy it for lifetime for about £45 and you get loads of stuff free. Personally I have had a look today and it does seem quite good if the buyers can get in there - lots more benefits for sellers. I think I'd prefer to stick to Paypal and not sure if International bidders can bid which would be a loss but I have thought of starting a US stiore, again, something to consider. You can also get a referal thing added to your pages and for everyone who signs up through that link you get £1 which is better than nothing. I am going to sit down tonight when the kids are in bed and everything I have that is surplus or I have more than one of I am going to list for a month both in a store and on auction to see what the response is. After all, if we never try we are never going to know are we.
