eBay Shops & Greedy eBay!! eBid? What are your plans for the future?

Hi All,

Ebay are so carp, I have had a basic shop for about 3 years, upgraded it a month back and then the next week get the mail that says they are now reducing the number of visible listings and putting fees up on 21st but they have stopped the listings already!! Cheeky ********

I have had rubbish sales the last few weekends, we are ticking over but I am more hoping this is the holiday season and nothing more untoward - this weekend saw us make £100 instead of the usual £500 on shop listings. New eBayers are not going to be aware on how to find shop listings at all as it really is not obvious there is anything more than auctions on there. If I list everything in my shop on Auction it is going to cost around £500 a week just for sellers fees. To be honest I am pretty worried. I have loads of stuff listed but not a lot of interest.

The question I am aking other shop sellers is what are you now going to do about GREEDY eBay - are you going over to eBid or another?? I am aware of the listing strike that is happening tomorrow but this is such a bad time. I am getting NO international sales now and anm getting a real knot in my stomach about the future. Grrrrrr.

Anyway, just wanted some feedback on what others are doing really. Better get dressed and do some housework I suppose.

I have been running down my shop listings as I'm still undecided whether or not to keep it running what with the increased FVFs and the new postage rates which will affect a huge number of my best selling lines.

My shop was never had a big turnover though, so it isn't going to be a huge wrench to give it up if I decide on that option, it was only borderline making money anyway.

I have noticed though that my standard auctions are going well, so I may concentrate on them instead.

If I give up my shop I'll give it up entirely, I won't go elsewhere, like ebid, as I think it would just be a waste of time.

Some of the unofficial boards are suggesting that everyone stops listing for one day to send a mesage to ebay that we are not happy with the shop changes.

However, it is worth noting that last time there was a suggested general strike, the number of listings increased that day as everyone thought it would be quiet and rushed to list on the off chance they would pick up business from their competitors. :D

I am all for the strike, the listings are already in my shop anyway - thats the point. I use eBay to make a living, I am just looking on eBid and will put some listing son there, if I sell some stuff then great, if not it has not cost much at all as I'll do one of the cheap sign up trials.

I can't really afford to lost £2-300 a day in lost sales so I have to try and do something, shrugging my shoulders about it won't pay the bills. I just thank god I have not employed staff that I would then have to lay off. I have been doing 40 parcels a day recently but the 4 I have from the weekend won't take long to do today.

I personally think it is a shame that people rush on list stuff thinking their competitors wouldn't be listing - good to see everyone pull together and stand together in this situation as we are all in the same boat and the people who really suffer are the ones who use this to make money to live. I sell on eBay so I can stay at home with my two children while they are babies instead of working a 14 hours day to pay childcare and then getting home to put them into bed. That is why I am annoyed, I do this so we can have a better life and not live on basic rations as my husband does not earn a great deal of money in his job. It won't make an iota of difference to me as I don't use auctions really - I did this week on the 10p day but that is all. The last time I did was at Xmas and I ended up losing over £2000 in fees as there is so much listed people just weren't buying anything and the fees far outweighed any money I was making.

Might be worth noting though that in Australia when the unofficial strike happened the press got wind of it and when it was reported 20,000+ sellers migrated to a free auction site and their business now goes to that other site and away from eBay!!

You can find the details on the strike on the Ebay Community Forums Boards and also details of what happened in Australia and also sign the petition against higher fees. Here is the direct link to the thread:

I find it amazing that ebay haven't removed the threads.

They know it is no threat so it makes them look good to leave it where it is.

As I'm thinking of closing my shop I'm resisting the temptation to pop along to the auction viewing today...must resist, must resist.

How are the community boards on ebay unofficial? :)

Apparently the media have picked up on the story.

    .

I'm not sure anyone suggested they were?

I referred to unofficial boards (see Google groups and usenet) blue_monkey referred to the official boards on ebay itself.
