has anyone paid off a 3 contract early before? how do they calculate the cost?
I really want to get the new iphone in june as i'm fed up with the rubbish nokia I have but i'll still have 6 months left on my contract with 3. I've heard that you don't have to pay the VAT if you buy it off early. I've got a £5 loyalty discount, will they still include that when they calculate the cost?

Hi
Taken from the 3 website:
Cancellation fees are calculated in line with guidance published by our regulator, Ofcom. The guidance says providers can recover the costs they incurred acquiring the customer when calculating the early termination fee. This is how we calculate the cancellation fee for customers who have a phone with us: it is a lump sum equivalent to the total of all of the monthly charges still remaining during the minimum term of a Pay Monthly customer's contract with us, less a discount of: 3% for customers who are in their first minimum term contract with us; or 10% for existing customers who have previously upgraded or renewed their existing contract with us.

Thanks for the info.
I guess that means I'm actually 10% better off than just not cancelling it and paying it per month. do I have to give 30 days notice or could I just ask for the pac code and port? I'll guess i'll be asked to pay when I ask for the pac?0 -
3 do the iphone for upgrading customers 'under the counter' i know quite a few customers who have them and if you already have loyalty discounts its worth calling and asking. You may need to go through a couple of advisors but they do do it,0

it depends on whether 3 manage to get the new iphone officially i doubt they'll have it right away otherwise. tbh i'm quite unhappy with 3's customer service and reception and want to change anyway. i argued so hard to get that measly £5 discount i doubt they'd give me an iphone0

I cancelled a 3 contract as I was miss-sold by P4U telling me I got coverage in my area when I did'nt.
They then sent me a final bill for £786.......£600 odd was a 'disconnection charge'!0 -
£786?! how did it come out to that much? is that how much was left on left on the contract?0

i distinctly remember someone on this forum getting an iphone off three network in the last few days when they called up three to leave the network early. apparently they were asked why they wanted to leave ande when they told the reason they were offered an iphone at a good price. since every one knows that it is very likely the new iphone will most probably launch on 22 june (as apple have booked their usual place for launches for that day this year too), the 3gs iphone will probably drop down in price and networks will want to shift their stocks of the 3gs before the new model hits. so unless you ask you wont know if youy will get a good deal.
try calling 333 and asking for a PAC and ask how much your final bill will be for paying off the contract early. insist in a PAC code (dont worry you can let it lapse and nothing will happen. thye are valid for 30 days). most likely the retention team will call you and might offer the iphone you want on terms you might like! you never know until you ask.bubblesmoney :hello:0
