Hi can anybody advise. I am currently with Talk Talk for my phone and broad band, I am out of contract. I want to switch to sky but am told they can't do this from Talk Talk. They advised that I switch to the post office service (non contract) and they could swop from there. I have just rang the post office and they say I have to pay £110 installation fee?? Does anybody know how I could do this differently or get around it??
Thanks in advance

Sky could sort it for you, but they can't be bothered - they aren't interested enough in you as a customer. Telephony is a bit of a side-venture for them.
You need to transfer the line to the Post Office who will charge the fee but who only have a 1 month commitment, and then transfer the line to Sky.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

You can only go from an LLU service back to BT-not direct to another LLU supplier. To do a 'return to donor' there is no charge, but you will have to take 12m line rental with BT. Once that is active, you can then take your broadband to whichever ISP you choose. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi macman et al
This may be changing now, as UW announced recently that they can now do transfers from Talk Talk LLU to UW LLU - hopefully, if they can do it, so can the other providers.

Local Loop Unbundling.
It means the firm has its own equipment in the BT exchange to which the BT 'final mile' wiring is connected.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hi LJW
In simple terms, Local Loop Unbundling....
What is Local Loop Unbundling?
Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) enables operators to connect directly to the consumer via BT's copper local loops and then add their own equipment to offer broadband and other services. This process involves operators accessing BT’s local exchange buildings to connect to BT’s network of copper lines which connect them to homes and businesses.
Hope this helps.
Mike

Thanks Heinz and Mike, makes it a bit clearer..still don't know what to do though! So many offers around, just want a simple home phone and broadband:o0

Take your line rental back to BT first (no charge), then go to samknows.com and do an exchange search to see what is available on your exchange. Broadband is exchange specific, it's not possible to give generalised advice on what is the best deal.
Or post your exchange name or full postcode and someone will check samknows for you.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I am in a similar situation to this....am currently with Virgin phone but have Sky TV and broadband. I was told that I couldn't go from Virgin to Sky but on a trip to a different city last week I was told by a Sky salesman that I can bypass BT and go to Sky. Should I tell Sky I'll move my TV and broadband to Virgin if they won't take my phone? Would Sky care?0
