Do You Ever Vacuum The Fan Vents on Desktop and go inside with a little soft paintbrush and clean the processor fan and motherboard with the same vacuum? Is this a wise or foolish thing to do because of delecate parts inside. :o

Not hoover but blowing some cold air from a distance is a good idea once in a while.
But there are special anti static sprays you can get which do the task better.

Not a great fan of brushing due to potential issues with static. I find a good blast every 6 months with an air line works well (or a can of compressed air).

    Two main issues are
1-conventional hoovers can generate huge levels of static and fry delicate silicone components
2-if you use an external blower to force fans to rotate they generate voltage which again isn;t the best.

Good practice would have you use a can of compressed ir and unplig fans before blowing them round (one by one so they get plugged back in!!! otherwise things overheat and fry).

my last 2 PC cases have been designed with removable filters over the air intakes and i take these out and wash them from time to time :)

Static from vacuuming is a myth, thousands of service engineers for all kinds of electronic equipment (including computer) are out there vacuuming every day. Its a great thing to do and can extend the life of equipment by YEARS!

This raises another question - should the case fan(s) be set to blow air into the case, or extract air from the case?

I set mine so the fans on the front blow air into the case and the ones on the back suck air out. That way there should be a flow of air through the case.

    - depends whether the case is designed for negative or positive pressure working.

    - general rule for stable positive [ PC's not lappies ] is [ lager intake ] in at the bottom front, out [ smaller exhaust ] at the top rear.

The physics of puter cooling is a very big and, as any o/clocker will testify, a surprisingly technical subject.

Damage to sensitive electronic components is not usually instant but it does shorten the components life.

In electronic manufacturing plants they spend £££££ to prevent static damage and subsequent warranty replacement costs reducing their profit margins.

Do you really think that they would do this if it wasn't necessary?
