Hi I travelled using the card once before without my daughter as it was still cheaper to buy a ticket using the travel card. No one questioned why I didn't have a child with me, a friend suggested if they do just say they have gone to the toilet! Good luck!0 -
Thanks again OP, mine arrived this morning in the post.

Do be careful. I have had my railcard since last year but on one occasion my son decided to go to his Grandma's instead, and I had to pay an excess. The ticket inspector said he should have fined me as well, but he was kind and didn't. They are very well-trained and do check.

They are not supposed to charge an excess - you would normally have to pay for a whole new full-price standard ticket, or even a penalty fare depending on your area (at least £20).
Depending on where you are going this could be very expensive, if you were going from London to Birmingham then this would be £70 extra to pay for a single ticket.
Some train companies check much more thoroughly than others, but an inspection team will always check, and if they check you at the station you won't be able to try the 'gone to the toilet' excuse.0 -
Thanks again beckster84 - ours arrived this morning0
