Got mine too thanks OP!
I too didn't realise that the definition of a child is over 5....however as it's still cheaper to use the card and buy a ticket for DD, I have convinced myself she can pass for 5....despite being 3....she's tall for her age and could really pass for 5...see I;m convincing myself now!!0 -

Read the T&C linked a few times in this thread. You can take an under 5 and still get the discount, but you have to buy a ticket for the under 5 rather than they travel free. So you don't have to try and convince anyone she's over 5 at all0 -

but our rail company now let 2 kids go free (up to 16) with each full paying adult so works out the same as when i buying railcard ..but had to buy one this time as going to blackpool in july ..getting there and back for £27 (advance fare) would normally have been £71 with railcard or £121 without so a big saving0 -
Thanks guys....I will defo be using this and buying DD a ticket...soooo much cheaper!! It now means that I don't have to stun her into silence so's not to give away her real age!!0

and one more thing that is worth knowing - if you are using the Family Railcard when travelling on (most) Virgin trains, then you can travel at peak time with an off-peak ticket.0
