I agree with all above, just pay for exam and study yourself.

Also, don't believe the advert when it says the average IT wage is £xxxx.xx (whatever £thousand it is), if you are starting out in IT you won't get that. Ive been in IT for 5 years and I'm no where near that...or maybe I'm just bitter.
  • Hello again,

can anyone tell me how much the exams cost and where in the UK hopefully scotland that you can sit them.

I found a cisco site that quoted upwards of £105 but you could only sit them in the US

    thanks again for your help

These do the training, not sure if they allow you to sit the exams on their own, but most training companies do..

The CCNA is £84 + VAT, I just checked on https://www.vue.com

I use these to book my exam(s). Intend to do my CCNA by year end.

The CCNA is a worthy qualification. http://www.cramsession.com/certifications/cisco/ccna.asp
Just go the jobserve, jobsite, workthing or whoever, and a CCNA gets you inbetween £25k - £35k. whereas a MCP might get you £17k, and a MCSE ( Seven Microsoft Exams ) might get you £25k.

It is perhaps the hardest foundation exam you can do, with questions that include virtual labs to show Cisco you know how to configure the router with routing and routed protocols and more, you also need to know about switching. You need an understanding of the Cisco IOS, how to flash the system, difference between, running-config, startup-config, NVRAM, flash, TFTP etc etc etc..

For just knowing routing and routed protocols, the COMPTIA Network+ sounds just right.
