ccna & ccnp qualification - computeach

Hi,

I've been on the student board & been advised to come here.

Has anyone been on this course with either computeach or home learning network?

I'd like some feedback if possible before signing up to a huge financial commitment.

thanks in advance

My only experience with computeach was a -ve one a collegue had. If i remember correctly if you pass the course in a certain time span you pay less. Unfortunately for him he couldn't fit the course in and got into a debt/interest loop that cost him quite a lot.

We did find some websites with all the course work on in the end.

Of course this isnt first hand and it was a few years ago but read the small print.

I personally wouldn't use them as there are a lot of tools and communities out on the web that are willing to help you in any area if you show enthusiasm.

Then just take a qualification exam if you need it for work etc...

I wasted £4.5k on one of their courses the support is sh*te and I could not complete without it. I'm sure some will tell of good experiences but I can only speak for mine, I wasted a lot of time, effort and money and ended up with one ring binder a few cd rom's a large bill and a missed opportunity.

  • you can buy a CCNA revision guide and then just pay for the exam yourself! cheaper than 4.5k anyway but you gotta be a hard worker!

Dont even think about CCNP though! :) Believe me, CCNA is tough enough! Im doing networking at uni and the year followed all 4 ccna modules... decided to go for the ccna, worked me socks off, but only got 750 out of 1000 in the final exam, 820 needed to pass the ccna.. and that was just the INTRO exam (modules 1 and 2) instead of ICND (1 2 3 and 4)!!!

So if i were you i'd concentrate on ccna before any further...

I wouldn't waste your money, you can get home study courses/books for £100 or so, and pay for the exams yourself.. much cheaper.. Also all the info you need is all over the web for free.

I would agree, It is better to study at home in your own time, lots of these course providers are just 'page turners' ie they just read out what is in the books.
Buy the books, join the certification forums, maybe get a couple of routers(or I heard there are sites that allow you to log into actual routers for exercises etc-maybe someone knows where) and put the effort in.

Geez and there's me all this time thinking I was at least partly responsible for my failure with this company, hasn't anybody got a good word to say for them?

Just had a wade through my personal library of IT books and came across a weighty tome titled "CCNA Self Study - CCNA Certification Library".

It is "The official self-study test preparation package for the CISCO CCNA 640-801, ICND 640-811, and INTRO 640-821" from ciscopress.com.

Cost 46.99 (in 2005). It includes "all the tools you need to fully prepare for CCNA examination". It includes over 500 practice questions and a copy of NetSim for CCNA LE (network simulation software).

That may be a good place to dip your toes.

  • thanks folks

I called today to cancel the appointment with them, said I didnt want to be tied to an APR of nearly 30%, the chap was not happy & I feel a bit bad because he was so nice but I think it's the right choice.

    Keep you informed:beer:

I think you made the right decision, don't feel bad 30% apr is clearly a rip-off, as is the course, he was probably annoyed because he won't be getting any commission out of you, but that was his choice of career..
