iPod Disco

Im not so sure either how good an ipod disco would be.. In theroy it sounds good arranging a load of songs, but it takes out the request element and then what if a slow song comes on when everyone is in the mood for something faster?0

"We do have to get the iPod tested by an electronics shop"
For what?
ipods are battery operated.
Can't see why you have to get it tested for anything0 -

Because that's what the venue asked us to do, and yes they are battery operated but we will be plugging it into their sound system.0 -
I went to an Ipod wedding 2 years ago and honestly it sucked.
As someone else said if you just have it playing it can't read the crowd. In this case they allowed people to touch it and people changed mid song, there were huge gaps between songs, it was really bad.
There were only 5 of us on the dance floor and I felt horrible for the bride as she spent forever doing the playlist AND she is a professional dancer and dancing is important to her.
If you can swing it I would hire a DJ.
I was afraid someone might say that, and to be honest it's what i've been worried about so i've been on various different forums looking for advise and almost waiting for someone to say this lol! Thanks for being honest about your own experience at one, it's definately made me think again!0 -

Hi Spongebabs,
We're having an "Ipod disco" - well really i'm sorting out all the music and our DJ friend has a programme on his laptop which DJs automatically for us. This gives a bit more control on the day too, because if no-one's dancing then we can try a different tack.
So, if you have a laptop, hook that up instead and use a free (yey!) programme called Media Monkey. This programme lets you automatically DJ and also sorts out volume discrepancies on all the songs. I've got it, but not used it too much but it should sort it out.
Hope that helps0 -
My sister did this at her wedding last year. It ran pretty smoothly, apart from when the first dance was announced (One Day Like This by Elbow) and the song wouldn't play at first:D The best man was on iPod duty and sorted it out.
What they did was when they sent out the invites, they asked people to suggest songs they'd like at the reception and made a little form for people to fill in and send back when they replied.
They then did the tracks over a few evenings, made a bit an event of it, and apart from the above (LOL!) it went fine. They had the iPod set away where the best man was in charge but no one else could get their hands on it.Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

I am just interested to know what it is being "tested" for.0 -
Thanks so much for the helpful replies, that's made me feel much much better
Luckylucky, the venue have asked that we take the iPod to be electrically tested to make sure it's safe to use and isn't going to blow up their system, i don't know why you're focusing on that, it's not what I asked for help about and it doesn't seem helpful to bang on about it so much..0 -
It's going to be for the hotels public liability insurance, yes they're battery operated but I imagine they'll plug it in to the soundsytem and mains...
Health and safety yaddayadda OP most small indie eletrical shop will do a sideline in testing have a ring round0 -
Sorry. I wasn't banging on about it.
I was just genuinely curious as to what they wished to test it for, but I guess that if it is hooked up to the mains (to keep it charged) then it will be portable appliance testing.
Nothing to do with what you are doing as regards your ipod disco - just an innocent question0
