What are my rights when it comes to refunding a buyer?

  • You have to refund her, as it is your responsibility, as the seller, to make sure the item ends up in her hands. If it's been lost in the post, it's your job to claim from RM. It's also your responsibility, as the seller, to take out adequate insurance for the item whilst in transit. If you wanted to insure it, you should have indicated a postage charge that would cover the cost, rather than give the buyer the option. The buyer is quite right that she is entitled to a refund. She could have been a little more polite, however.

Incidentally, if you offered a refund from the start, why has the buyer not yet received it? If you did it through paypal, it would have been with the buyer straight away.

I don't have any money in my paypal account as I withdrew it, I was depositing funds to refund her.
  • I'm not one for just giving in...Some of the emails I've had were really abusive and nasty..and there was no need of it, every email makes me even more annoyed, when it comes to refunding her, I'm thinking, why should I?

Umm..because she hasn't received the item she has paid for and you are contract bound to supply to her.

Why did you not refund her straight away? Sounds to me like you offered the refund, but didn't actually do it. It takes all of two minutes to refund through paypal, why the delay?

Takes all of two minutes to deposit money into a paypal account. 2 more minutes to refund, so 4 minutes in total. Still no real explanation as to the delay.

  • And I forgot to mention...I will deposit my account just in case, but its only letting me do it in pence (two digits) so how can I deposit £3.16?

OP, you're in the wrong here, period

read paypal's T&C, sellers are entirely responsible to ensure the item arrives.

the ONLY way of fulfilling the T&C is to post recorded / special delivery

regardless of abuse here (report them later to ebay) YOU MUST REFUND THEM, IN FULL, THE COST OF THE ORIGINAL TRANSACTION

    simple
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

  • I'm just going to refund her, I can't be bothered with the hassle...now I know that I have to refund her, I may as well do it without getting PayPal involved.

Still having problems with it though, my paypal is playing up....more abuse from the girl!

Im sure there is an option in the ebay dispute panel that allows you to send a e-mail stating that both the seller and buyer mutally agree to cancel the sale.

This will stop the buyer from leaving you a neg feedback and also get your listing fee back from ebay.

Once this is completed I would refund the money via PayPal and add the buyers ebay ID to your blocked bidders list to avoid any future problems from the same person.

just a thought though, i have the same happening to me at the moment,
i sold some jeans, for 20 including postage, i posted 2nd class

they say they havent recieved a MONTH later!
i have a recipt from post office, ( always get them if your an ebayer)

but on my listings i always offer 65p for insurance, the buyer didnt pay this, so therefore i didnt post recorded delivery, so where do i stand with paypal,
as i offered the insurance and the buyer didnt take it out?
