Makeup that stays in place - Your Suggestions please!

So with only weeks to go before the big day, I'm still umming and ahhing over whether to get a professional in to do my makeup. I do wear makeup on nights out but am concerned at the staying power.

Having done a bit of research and lots of testing I've figured out some good products, but still am missing a lot of the eye-related products.

I figure lots of people have been to makeup counters so wondered if you could all help me with your "DEFINITELY DO BUY THIS IT IS AMAZING" and "AVOID THIS IT DOESN'T WORK" suggestions. It could be a great resource for future brides!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation -
AMAZING, never had a foundation like it. It lasts all day and is an amazing base. They also do a "LIGHT" version (not so heavy on the face). Well worth the money.

Avon Perfect Wear Eyeshadow Stick Diamond
- It is white, I always use it as a base and my eyeshadow stays on for ageeeeees with it on.

Avon Glimmerstick for brows - really good brow liner, stays on great.

Any suggestions for blusher/bronzer/mascara/eyeshadow/lipstick/lipgloss/primer or anything else one might need?

  • Number 7 did a primer type thing to help makeup stay put especially if you tend to get oily skin. http://www.boots.com/en/No7-Shine-Free-Make-Up-Base_15552/
The lady put a sample in a small pot for me, it feels like a paste when you put it on it does stay forever but it is harder to apply the foundation, maybe it takes practice?
It's pricey so ask for a sample to try it at home first.

I love Benefit Coralista Blusher, it looks great and stays on well.

I am not sure if It might be a bit in your face, so to speak for a bride tho.

Also Benefit Moon Beam or High Beam, give a glowing radiance to the skin.

YSL Touche Eclait, hides any dark under eye circles like you would not beleive.

I also think the Este Lauder Double Wear foundation is fantastic, the bottle goes a long way. I put mine on with a brush, and work fairly swiftly to blend it in.

practice with whatever makeup you decide on and then take pictures! i am having mine done professionally and the lady warned me that some light reflecting products (like touch eclait) can leave white circles under you eyes in the pics cos it reflects the camera flash! not a good look for you wedding pics!

Urban Decay primer potion for eyeshadow will make you eyeshadow stay on all day, crease free and truer colours. £11 from Boots/Debenhams or other Urban Decay stickists. A friend recommended it to me ages ago. I eventually caved in before christmas and got some and I honestly don't know how I lived without it now! I use it daily and works just as well for softer neutral style eyeshadows as it does for big dramatic looks on a night out. :)

Boots No7 stay perfect is amazing: I use the Lip Lacquer and the eye liner...mainly because I always get make up sliding down my face if I use anything else!

The Lip Lacquer only comes in a few shades but is brilliant: double ended, so you stick the base on first and let it dry and then add gloss over the top. I put it on once at the start of the day and it often lasts until evening. The eye liner is liquid and comes in glittery ones or plain ones (sort of pearlescent) and are ace too.

I still can't find a foundation to last more than a couple of hours though...!

benefits primer - or in general i think any primer, i never knew what a primer was until i went to a counter and think that it seems to be the key to long lasting makeup. I love the benefit one because lots of my friends commented on how my skin looked like it had a healthy glow - and it doesnt naturally!

Agree Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is a brilliant foundation the best I have ever used and I also love that it doesn't rub off or transfer onto clothes.
Using white eyeshadow as a base I find makes my eye shadow last longer.
mascara, Maybelline great lash but not the first few times of a new tube when it seems a bit thin, after a week or so of use it thickens up and then is at its best.

I am a MAC girl through and through, I never bother going anywhere else now.

their products cope with my imbalanced skin (t-zone to the extreme) and the colours are amazing and long lasting.

I find their assistants often look a bit scary with some of their make up (ie. unbelievable colour combinations rather than bad!) but they are really helpful and give great advice.

I'll be off for a bridal consultation nearer the time so that I can get the subtle shimmery look I am after :)

(sounds like i am getting paid for this but I'm not!)

PS - my skin is super pale too and they are the only ones that match the colour right for me, everyone else wants me to go a shade more orange "to give me some colour" arghhh! i like being pale!
