Tesco Sim Card - poor reception!

I have just bought myself a Motorola V220 phone from Tesco which has come with a Tesco PAYG sim card. The reception on the phone is very poor and I cannot hear callers when I am at home.
What network do Tesco use? I am going to buy a new Sim card and not sure if my phone will be locked, so if I bought one for the same network that Tesco use then I thought it would work ok.
Does anyone know if Tesco block their phones?
Any good deals on PAYG at the moment.

I believe tesco phones are network locked yes. Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network so don't buy an O2 sim. If you check here http://www.sitefinder.radio.gov.uk/ you can see which network has it's transmitter closest to where you are.0 -

Just click on each transmitter to bring up a data sheet which tells you which operator runs the base station.seaniboy wrote:dave i see 4 local to me but how do i know who's is who's ?0 -

It only works when you zoom in to the most detailed level (0-100 scale) before clicking on a base station. Could that be the problem?
Otherwise it could be an over-zealous pop-up blocker that's stopping the details from appearing.0 -
Hi Labradoodle11
I also have Tesco 02 and also have real problems with reception. Most of the time I can't ring out and many people end up leaving a voicemail because they can't get through  it frequently says SOS calls only on the screen.Smoke free since 16th December 20120 -

I have just phoned Tesco and told them that it is unacceptable. It cannot be a problem with O2 because my DH is with O2 and has no problems at all. They think there may be a problem with the phone and want to repair it. I am going to send it back and then see what happens. I personally can't see how it will make any difference.
Not sure where I stand if the repair doesn't work. They have sold me something which doesn't work in my area. Any suggestions as to what I would be able to do.0 -
