For comparison - Prices of Kashmir White granite are as follows:-

    3000mm x 630mm x 30mm = £195.43 incl vat
    2000mm x 630mm x 30mm = £130.28 inc vat.

Installation costs will be more than man made stuff, a simple fit for two pieces above with an overmount hob and an overmount sink would be in the region of £500 - £600

If you start adding undermount polished sinks and drainer grooves etc...then it's going to get more pricey.

Can one get drainer grooves in these Duropal worktops??

    Have a look at

A little bit more exciting than the run of the mill laminates.

I think for £500 you will be lucky to get laminate. Certainly the Maia and minerelle are way outside your budget in my experience.

Choosing worktops is the last thing I need to do before I order my new kitchen.

I priced Maia worktops and upstands at homebase and was shocked to get a price of £3,600. This was without fitting, which may cost another £300-£400

I would need 4 x 3.6m lengths and similarly for upstand.

I considered Black Granite and was pleasantly surprised to be given a price of £2,900 for supply and fit the following lengths including upstand

    1 -3,100mm x 610mm with sink cut-out
    2 -2,800mm x 610mm
    3 -2,200mm x 610mm with hob cut-out
    4 -1,500mm x 610mm

Alan M would be obliged if you can offer comment on value of above.

    cheers

sheslookinghot, are you serious? Maia is a cheaper alternative to Granite, isnt it?? Homebase are probably quoting you sky high prices and then reducing it down on haggling. Deffo can not see Maia costing £3k+

If that's Absolute Black granite, there's in the region of £900 worth of stone. Upstands add about £200

In Black Galaxy there's around £1,100 worth of stone - the rest is fitting/fabrication.
    Upstands add a further £250.

Assuming the sink and hob are regular overmount items you should easily be able to cut £500-£700 off that price with a little shopping around. Maybe even more.

Assuming access is reasonable, you're not on the 28th floor with no lift or in the Shetland Isles.

Get some quotes, just fax or email the kitchen plan to some local suppliers and get a variety of quotes.

(Plain Black is a bit of nightmare to live with - it shows absolutely every mark).

Might be worth trying Ikea - I think they do a cheapish solid surface worktop in various standard sizes. Not sure if you need to get the whole kitchen from them to be eligible tho'.

Funny, I had a look at Ikea Solid stuff last week.

I'd popped in to the Croydon Store for something for my 12 year old and asked about worktops when I was there.

They call it "Stone" but it's similar to the ones mentioned above - a resin composite on top of a chipboard core.

It was the same kind of prices as the worktops linked to in this thread....

    £300 - £500 a legnth depending on dimensions.

I found an eBay shop that sold Earthstone much cheaper than Wickes. (Still not cheap enough though...)
