What I've done in the end is I have been a bit lazy (which is probably what got me in trouble in the first place) - I've stayed with the same ISA but got new terms 2.6% I can invest another £5100 same as anyone but if I don't I'll get 2.6% on what I already have in.

The main bit is to write in my diary for next ISA year to change again to get the better rate & not let it drop - I think he said it goes down to 2.1%

    Thanks for everyone's help :D

Or use an electronic diary in your mobile phone, iPod touch, laptop etc to flash up a reminder too.

It reverts to the ISA Saver Direct in 12 months time. The rate is currently 0.5%.

Ooops  will learn to listen properly.
Should get the terms within 21 days so I'll be sure to read them.

Good ideas for reminders there but knowing me I'd better have something written down somewhere concrete where I will definitely find it! :D Actually I could do myself a reminder on Moonpig as though it were a birthday :rotfl:

I didn't open an ISA last year and probably won't bother again this year. My medium term savings will be split 80/20 between NSandI RPI tracker and Zopa.

Short term savings in my offset tracker (1.24%) and regular savers (5%).

The banks won't make a lot from me so I won't be contributing much to their offensive bonuses.

Craig, chillax, clear your head and fight back.

I ain't putting nothing into the banks, the only interest I will lose at £15000 is £15.
£420 if you opt for the top easy access rate, more if you choose to tie the interest up for some time.

Your call, but I'd rather have a bit of money generating from interest than none at all.

NSandI pay RPI+1% tax free. I earn even better rates by lending at Zopa (but this is not risk free) and it is satisfying that I may be taking a tiny amount of business away from the banks - and it's fun.

Google Calendar works well, it'll even send you a free reminder text message as well as an email. Or Memo to Me if you want something simpler.

The best returns are either by banking online, having no withdrawal status for accounts or by paying a little tax.

    Con, con, con.

And I don't appreciate being left in the cold with my !!!!!! in my hands, looking like an idiot. Someone is going to have to lose something so that I gain. I wonder who I will chose for that task. What this financial situation has taught is that morals and ethics are dead, you get no where playing by the rules and paying your taxes. The bankers broke almost every rule in the book and got a fortune.....they won't lose that fortune either. I'm going that way, it will make me a better person knowing I'm not living like a douchebag.

You seem like a chilled out sort of person, and I wish you well.
Theres plenty of accounts that are competative paying around 3% at present which give you access, you can manage by post or by branch.

Yeah I agree that interest rates are poor compared to the 6-8% we had a few years back, but 3% is better than 0.5% you keep going on about!!

So what are you going to do so you dont live live a deseperate hobo or a douchebag?? We would love hear!
