All our immediate family know, they have seen us struggle so felt we are doing the right thing for our family unit. to be honest i have even told our elederly neighbour who i have become very fond of. i didnt want him to just see us up and move, was shocked to hear his daughter did went BR last year!...so it goes to show lots of people are in this boat, we dont look any different to each other, no signs above our heads...think of all those famous celebs who are BR too!0

told fil last night and again he was fantastic, was really really surprised at how good he was about it, he said we should have looked into it long ago rather than continue struggling for another year. he's speaking to the solicitor today about how best to get oh off the company directorship thing (fil has set up a company whilst building some houses on the land, oh and his brothers and sisters have one share each, fil and mil have the other 96 shares, we've not reeived any money from it or had anything to do with it, dont even think the first property has been finished 3 years down the line!), but was so surprised at how nice he was, I thought he would have been really funny about it but he wasn't.
oh well just need to tell my parents this weekend and then we're all done with telling people!0 -
I haven't worried about telling anyone. That doesn't mean I am proud of it. I made a mistake I dealt with it and I am moving on. I have learnt a lot of lessons from this experience.
I refuse to feel ashamed about it. Just like I refuse to be ashamed about mental health. People can judge if they like, Everyone is entitled to an opinion.0 -
told parents at the weekend, they were fantastic and were really supportive and asked why we didn't do it a year before rather than struggle on for a year. apparently they were in the same situation as us in the 80s and were lucky that my dad got a tax rebate otherwise they would have gone br as well.
will be telling siblings if they ask that we have sold the place and that we are moving into rented accomodation as we didn't make enough to put down as a deposit
have been really surprised at how supportive everyone has been, and shows that I was making everything a lot worse in my head.
have baby scan again tomorrow and then we're off to open up a barclays bank account and see some properties0 -
I told my mum as she has just been through BR, but my OH's mum found out by overhearing a conversation and she's a little concerned for us. Told close friends, just so they can understand the stress we're going through really, most have been supportive but I can tell it's something they'd never find themselves doing so possibly don't understand after so many years of trying we're 'giving in' if you like.0

I didnt tell anyone, my family would have been so worried about me, I think its up to the individual and for me I feel better with no-one knowing. I know that everyone says dont feel ashamed etc but I do.

I too feel shame inappropriately! We told both sets of parents and in fact consulted well before we did the deed. They were very supportive although I have to say I didnt agree with telling MIL and step FIL due to their age and the worry factor. They do worry, but they also think it was the right thing. My parents blame others and think we have just been very unlucky.0
