Vodafone signal dropping issue

For the past week or so, myself and my wife have been having problems with our mobile phones.

We've had our contracts for just under a year now and it's been fine since we took them out and always had a full signal as the mobile mast is literally around the corner from the house which is great.

Now, we have a signal, but as soon as we unlock our phones, the signal either drops down to one/two bars, or returns back no signal at all, so we can't make calls, text or go on the internet/check e-mails.

We use the phones as part of our business and rely on the internet, as we can't get broadband in the house, so this is no good really.

This seems to be happening all over and not just at the house. It's the same in the house and out of the house.

I have a unlocked 2G iPhone which was unlocked from my old O2 contract and the wife has the James Bond phone and we've tried the sim in other phones and it's the same too, so it's not the phones.

Contacted Vodafone and they said there's no problem and nothing they can do. Vodafone maps say that the standard service is excellent too. My phone's only 2G, so it's nothing to do with the 3G signal and the wife's phone is 3G and it's the same on both 2G, GPRS and 3G settings.

Any ideas?

Have a read here, this is apparently how it's meant to be, there is no problem! And this is only the posts they haven't moderated!

Has anything been built near you lately?

My mate used to have full signal and then they built a block of flats at the far end of his road and now he's lucky if if gets 2 bars.

The coverage maps are fine, but there's no onus on anyone to tell the networks if/when a new building goes up and as they can't check every week, they go out of date fairly quickly. . .

Nope, nothing been built nearby in a long, long time. We're just a small village, so all of the space for building has been taken up lol.

I did get this back from Vodafone though, as I e-mailed them again after I posted this.
    Hi Keith,

I'm sorry that you are facing problem with the network in your area.

Keith, we are currently facing some technical problems with our network due to which some customers are unable use there phone. I sincerely apologise for all the inconvenience caused to you.

Our engineers are working on it and it will be resolved soon. The fault reference number is 584322483. You can check the status of the fault using the reference number.

I trust the above information helps.

    Kind regards,
    Mukesh Ambavle
    Vodafone Customer Services

So from going to "There's no problem", to a "Problem with the network for everyone" is slightly drastic.

It's the way they work unfortunately, the touchy feely smiley bunch on the e-forum are very different offline when they e-mail you to tell you they've moderated out something they didn't like....Thankfully I was on a monthly deal and PAC'd out as fast as I could!
