My friend asked me to look at her laptop as she could no longer connect it to the internet.

I ran a quick scan with Malwarebytes, and then ran a full scan (with version 1.46)

I have also ran CCleaner and HiJack this.

She did not have any antivirus installed so I have installed AVG (I know many will disagree with my choice but I have used it on all my home pc's for a number of years with no problems (* goes off hurridly to touch wood! *)

Firstly. if someone would be so kind as to advise on the next step with these logs

Secondly, the original issue still remains in that it will not connect wirelessly to the internet. There is no wireless icon in the tray (there is a button on the top of the keyboard with a wireless light which is lit). And I cannot fathom out how to get it to show the available networks to connect to - it's as if it doesn't have wireless :(

Thank you :)

Maybe its of no relevance, but the other day I was sorting out someones laptop, it was slow at booting up (blackberry software the culprit - but another story), couldn't get it to connect wirelessly, the light was on but no connection, turns out that the light is orange when wireless is not on, press the button light turns blue and voila!

Thanks B33fy, light is green (as are all the other lights on the display) and I have tried swithching it on and off with the button but it doesn't seem to do anything!

  • Well it looks like the driver was corrupted as I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now have wireless capability again. :)

Can anyone give any advice on the above logs though please.

    Thank you

  • I have no experience on how to look at logs so I'd wait for others. However this link was on the malware/spyware removal guide where you can post the log and see what is good and bad: www.hijackthis.de/en

Can someone else agree that this website is good?

Thanks The Grandmaster, I have posted the log on that site to see the results but I am not confident enough to know what to do next and as it's not my laptop but one of the mums from school, I am even less brave at 'having a go' :o

  • I wouldn't have a go even with my computer! I'm sure someone will have a look at the log soon.

Well the machine is running really slowly and struggling with resouces (keep getting virtual memory messages) so after a bit of googling, I have removed AVG and installed AVIRA as I understand this is less resource hungry. A full scan found a number of things (which AVG and Malwarebytes did not!!)

Scan on next post followed by a fresh HJT log, if someone would be so kind to look at :)

    Thank you

Just wondering why Avira found 15 items and only seems to have dealt with 10 though??? What happened to the other 5
