Who are you to say what your gran can and can't have?

My point being, re write the letter as if you are your gran and get her to sign it.

Also sign her up with the telephony preference service (tps) to reduce the cold calls

Just back to the OP, aren't these kind of loans front loaded so for the first few years it will just be mainly interest being paid and the balance in the later years of the agreement? Like a mortgage if you like.
  • Very concerning incident earlier this week when a Virgo salesperson was visiting our elderly and vulnerable neighbour at 8:30pm and when we politely suggested it was getting late and perhaps it was time to leave the salesman told us we should get out of our neighbour's house and became verbally aggressive. Eventually we called the police and this salesperson remained until the Police arrived, showed an unconvincing id badge and continued to argue his point that he had not committed a crime as he had cold called our neighbour several times earlier that day to "arrange" this visit to "just give an estimate". The salesperson could not remember his manager's surname and had driven from Bradford to Nottingham that day. Thankfully the Police made the astute judgement to ask him to leave as it was now 9:30pm. I'm really concerned about the practice of this company.

VERY well done for looking out for your neighbour. Sounds like you stopped a big rip-off/scam from happening.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will post advice to stop him/her being taken advantage of in the future!!

My Neighbour was conned by Virgo
Stupidly high price ans dangerously shoddy workmanship which endangered the structure of her home.
Trading Standards were brilliant and got the work put right
If you are worried about a family member or neighbour falling prey to these con artists contact trading standards as the more evidence they have the easier it is for them to prosicute them.

I was knocked sideways yesterday, mum has signed up for a deal by this outfit.

    £10.5K for 35m of Facias & Soffits with 5 downpipes. 0% 12 months.

Still can't believe she fell for it, cold caller as well... I know nothing about F & S prices but this seems like astronomical overcharging to me. I've told her to cancel.

Is there a cooling off period??
    If so cancel now.

I'm visiting her this afternoon and sorting out the cancellation. There is paperwork detailing how to cancel, apparently 7 days but she signed Monday.

    Parents... who'd have em.

  • Virgo just rang me. I told them we were TPS registered and they shouldn't be calling me and they told me that as I'd spoken to them in 2006 they could ignore the TPS register because I had taken their call before... I told them that that wasn't the case - they're not supposed to call numbers that they haven't contacted in the last 5 years (is it 3 years or 5? I wasn't sure). I told them I would like a price for Windows but that I would not under any circumstances agree to a sale there and then - they kept on and on, trying to find a time when both of us would be in, even though I told them I wanted to see them on my own and would discuss with my husband later. Worryingly they wanted to know if I was elderly, if I worked, and they would not agree to just see me - gave me some nonsense that Trading Standards wouldn't allow them to meet a customer on their own! Obv wanted us both there for a hard sell! After I asked to be removed from their database they basically refused, so no doubt we'll be getting more calls in future... My question here is, how do I get removed from their database if a straightforward request is refused and they are ignoring the TPS register? We have a method for normal nuisance calls - I hand them to my tweenage son who then talks about cars to them until they get bored and hang up - he thinks it's a right laugh, and it does confuse the foreign call centres... so no doubt he'll be talking to Virgo when they bother me next time....
  • I must say how shocked I am at some of the comments I've been reading here as Virgo did some work on my elderly mother's house last year and I really can't recommend them enough. When my mother told me that they were sending somebody round to check out the roofline of her house, I made sure that I was there for the appointment as I wanted to make sure that she wasn't ripped off in any way. The salesman was great - very polite and not at all pushy. In fact there were a couple of things that my mother thought needed doing, but the salesman pointed out that most of the problems she had could be sorted out a lot cheaper without the need for as much work as she thought it would involve.

In the end, my mother decided that the guttering for the whole house should be replaced and new downpipes. The price was competitive so she decided to go ahead and have the work done. The team who did the work arrived on time (I was there again, just to make sure there were no problems) and were very polite and friendly all the time. The work was done quickly, with minimum amount of mess and, all in all, we had a very good experience with Virgo. In fact, I've recommended them to some friends who have needed work done and they've also been pleased with the service they've received.
