Sheilas Wheels Cancelled Car Insurance Without Warning!

Hi all,

I have used the site for years but never the forum before - hope some of you can help me with a problem we have had this week with Sheilas Wheels

In short - I got home on Tuesday evening from work to find a letter from Sheilas Wheels saying they had cancelled our insurance policy from Friday 22nd - meaning we had been driving around for 5 days without insurance through no fault of our own - what if we had had an accident
The letter said the policy had been cancelled as we had failed to provide proof of our No Claims Discount (NCD).

After an hour on the phone they confirmed they had received both my NCD and my partners NCD for policies that were all less than a year old yet refused to acknowledge that they had made a mistake, would not reinstate the policy and would not apologise!

So upon asking to speak to a Team Manager or Customer Relations Manager we were advised that they were all too busy and would call us within 10 minutes. 48 hours later we have still to be called.

We called again the next day to ask for our NCD's to be returned and they confirmed this will take 7-10 days.

Before we proceed with a formal complaint can anyone tell me how best to go about this?

I only hope our new Insurer (Diamond) is more customer focussed and does not get concerned by Sheilas Wheels cancelling our policy as a result of their incompetence and appauling customer service! :silenced:

Any suggestions folks?

Thanks!
Madian

No suggestions here, other than don't always pick the cheapest insurance you can find.

You will find details of Sheilas complaints procedure in their policy.

You do need to clear this up, as it stands you have had the policy cancelled which could cause problems with any insurer you approach. (How have Diamond reacted to you having this cancellation on your history?)

Quentin - so far don't really know as applied online. Will find out I guess over the next week or two when supply Insurance Certifcates and covering letter.

    :(

When you applied online they will have either asked if you ever had a policy cancelled, or put in their assumptions that you have never had a policy cancelled. Presumably you have wrongly said "no, never had a policy cancelled".

You need to clarify this with Diamond, otherwise they will be entitled to cancel your policy as well!
  • Thanks - did tick yes but still think this will not be a smooth ride (excuse the pun)

Do you realise that Admiral and Elephant are owned by the same company

What's that got to do with anything?

The OP is having issues with Sheila's Wheels!

Most companies accept verbal proof of NCB nower days, why couldn't Sheilas Wheels just ring up your previous insurance company? Why is everything by paper nower days, it's slow and un-necessary!

Hopefully you have better luck with Diamond :)!
  • In rspect of the insurance companies I am aware that:
    1. Sheilas Wheels is part of Esure (my partner had previoulsy been insured wih Esure so thought this would make things easy - how wrong was I)
    2. Admiral, Elephant & Diamond are all connected (I have previously had to claim on an Elephant policy and it took almost 5 years to settle the claim)
I suppose apart from advice about when to threaten / go to the Finanacial Ombudsman I would also be grateful for feedback on the legallity of an Insurance Co. cancelling our policy without notice - resulting in us driving for 5 days illegally through no fault of our own?!?

I'm now on admiral multicar, they wanted proof for the first car but weren't bothered about the second one when we added it 4 months later lol.
