It's like when I did the cambelt on my car, it took me a WEEK when it it would've taken a professional a few hours, and it cost me about the same in tools and parts as it would have cost me to pay a professional. BUT:
    1) I was left with lots of useful tools after the job was done, which I'd not have had if I'd just paid a mechanic
    2) It was a good experience and I learnt a lot
    3) Satisfaction of doing it yourself successfully
    4) You know the job was done properly because you took your time, did it yourself, and did it by the book.

I wouldn't really agree with £250 being a rip off because I personally would expect to pay a plumber more than that to fit a bathroom suite however fair play to you for considering doing it yourself.

thanks for every ones help and opinion.

just thought i would give you a quick update of my progress. got home from work last night around 3 o'clock and had the old bath out and new bath in by 5.30.

im lucky that there was a small bulkhead at the back of the bath so getting the old bath out and new bath in wasnt an issue. dont have time today but sunday will see the toilet and sink done and hopefully the tiling started as well!

i am relatively DIY savvy but the bath only had 3 connections- 1 to each tap and the waste. all the same size as the original so its a straight swap. if anyone else is in the same position as i was then go for it!

Well done for doing it yourself!
Now what are you gonna plant in the old bath?

Dude, buy a new house. Your house probably looks like the last shat i took.

how do you figure that or are you merely talking out of your username?

Last two baths I changed, first one I had to cut in half to get out, as the end was tiled into the wall. Then all the pipes ran down the side, just where the new bath frame managed to hit them as I pushed it up to the wall. Complete re-piping, and then the new bath panel was too high for the bath to fit under the tiles, so careful cutting then required.
Second bath had leaked under the tiles, so as I took the bath out, the end of the room literally fell off, and finished up being stripped back to bare brick. (But I'd guessed it was that bad, so the owner didn't get a shock with the bill)

    Well done Greg6721 ,
Ignore posting such as asscrack12 he has posted the grand total of ...2

You were lucky , everything lined up . no fancy 'fiddling'
But you had the 'guts' to have a go .

Next time the job might be a nightmare , who knows .

    Again ... well done.

Probably best to get someone else to turn the water on whilst you stay in the bathroom, if you can that is.

Well done for giving it a go...

yeah i think thats the way to go! i used plenty of pfte tape (the guy in grahams the merchant told me if would help!) and the basin spanner was essential! i will do a once round all the fittings and tighten them all before the big switch on!
