Motivation for housework..........

I can think of plenty to unmotivate you. For instance an unmade bed is less likely to encourage bedbugs as a made bed is a warm damp environment for them to thrive in  A sterile house will not help your child to develop defences against allergies. I'd better not go on.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Surely not an issue if you actually change your bedlinen, have your duvets laundered, and hoover your mattresses regularly..?0 -

Shelley - it's easy.
Invite the MIL over at the weekend for lunch on Saturday.
By 11am on Saturday, your house will be pristine.
The best motivation is when you've got something to tidy for
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

OH's mum is coming over for the first time to my house on Sunday... and there is no way I am tidying for her.. 9 people in one house.. and just one of me.. it will NOT be even vaguely tidy by her standards!!
it won't matter anyway.. in MY home I can swear in hers I respect that she doesn't like it and don't..

Quite timely thread, I have been having a stress about things being untidy and not seeming to have the time to get things done.
I tend to zip round in the morning after DDs are taken to school and nursery, have baby at home with me then but he likes to have a nap so I get a lot done then. Stock items are:- clear table, wipe over and scrub high chair then wash up breakfast pots
- wipe down worktops
- vacuum round table and high chair and in kitchen (always needs doing every day, no matter how thorough or careful I am:D)
- put load of laundry on and retrieve any still drying from the day before and fold into laundry basket
When DD1 is home from school, that's when they like to play and relax for a bit, baby will have another nap then so I'll put laundry away then, and try for a bit of time with DD1 to do reading, spellings etc before I start the tea. DD2 will sit with us and do colouring.
It all goes crazy at teatime, that's when I find I'm most tired, and of course because my attention is elsewhere, that's when I find DDs up to mischief no matter how much I endeavour for them to have activities to do or entertain themselves. Baby will inevitably wake up halfway through cooking so it takes longer when he's chucking toy cars at me and wanting to be picked up every 5 mins (aw) and I have to really push myself to clear up the table after tea whilst OH washes up (good man.)
I do take the opportunity when DDs having bath to wipe over the bathroom, or tidy things away whilst the bath is running or they're getting dressed for bed, but at the mo evenings are game over for me, there's no chance of anything getting done then!Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

Mess makes me feel depressed, when the place is tidy it's amazing how much more relaxed I feel - that's my motivation

I tend to get it all done in the morning if I can - today I got 2 loads of washing done, hoovered the upstairs and staircase and cleaned the kitchen and living room - bedrooms are fine and floorwashing can wait till Monday
Every now and then I pick a room and give it a 'deep clean' and declutter and dust everything, but inbetween times well, a bit of dust never hurt anyone.
Now I can have lunch in peace before my mum and sis visit
