  • I went to arnold clark once and wanted to test drive a car but they told me I would need to be credit checked before I could test drive the car to see if I could actually afford to buy it!

Told them where to go and will never go in one of their showrooms again!

Hope you both manage to get your issues sorted but I would guess that you are in for a long battle.

arnold clark are rubbish. they make thier money by selling in bulk, they aren't interested in fixing problems, just selling more rubbish cars.

i remember a machargs salesman (owned by arnold clark) telling me how the 1.6 engine in the focus i was about to test drive was the same as the one in my 1.6 capri.
i took the focus for a good hard test drive then said no thanks.
thing is the guy knew what i did for a living so really should have known better, but he didn't, he just kept spouting nonsense. now if i hadn't have known any better he could have sold me anything. guys like him prey on others who have even less knowledge than him.

    :rotfl:.

I've had the exact opposite experience at a couple of their garages, getting handed the keys without them checking if I even have a licence (nor signing anything for insurance purposes, etc etc etc)

Hi sorry to highjack your thread but I have also had issues with Arnold Clark, was one at end of M74:mad:

anyway no issues with car but they changed finance agreement and upped the monthly repayments but did not advise of the change also they gave a p/x figure when doing changeover said car needed work and charged £250 to fix. Car was my partners and sadly I was not there otherwise we would have walked out but she did know what was going any thoughts or advice as to what we could at least to get the £250 back.
Also regarding the survey was that a call back and should we expect one

One last thing I work for hsbc and if we are doing any lending have disclaimers to give, check that can afford etc etc but for the hp on car we were not told anything is that right?

    thanks in advance
Hi, I used same one, my original salesperson was Harry who was a total waste of time. I paid cash for my £3750 Astra estate. Every question I asked, he had to go and check with someone. When the first paperwork was printed off and handed to me for signing the 'screen price' had been increased by £200. (An honest mistake!!)
Anyway it is a long story, and as I said all issues were sorted before I picked up new car.

The survey will come a couple of days after you drive away by email link

    Good luck with them

Muirlea- I'm sorry your having problems too :( I suppose we've learned our lesson the hard way! As Scottishsapper says dont hold back on the customer survey- I didn't!!!

Kilty- They did ask to see my drivers license, but there were no test driving plates available (the other salesmen had taken them because they had places to go!) So I was told to be careful and take it out reguardless. Maybe there would be plates available for customers if the staff wern't swanning about with them on. I didn't sign any insurance papers either- didn't know I had to!

Scottishsapper- Did you have to wait long for the Manager to call you reguarding the survey you filled out? I would just like to know roughly how long I should wait til I contact him.

I got my phonecall about the survey I filled out- the lady was very helpful and said she would contact the dealer. I then had a call from the service centre manager at the AC that I bought the car from- he was quite abrupt on the phone (obviously wasn't too pleased that i'd complained) but told me the parts had been ordered and told me to bring my ferry tickets next time and they would cover the cost of the ferry.

Oh well, better than nothing- I just hope this will be the last trip over I have to make.

Glad to see they paying for at least one trip, maybe you should be as abrupt with them as they were and still complain about the previous trips.
When I ordered my car I asked them to include the cost of a towbar and fitting, after 2 trips to see his manager we agreed on the cost, low and behold when I went back with insurance for the tax the towbar came up again and the salesman that I was then dealing with said it was not included in the price I had paid:eek: After debating it for around 10 minutes I demanded to see the manager and eventually, after I said I was walking away was told it would be fitted and the original salesman would pay for it (£280)

Anyway, glad you got a partial result

Typical dealer behaviour. The last time I went to a dealer, about 7 years ago, I'd just bought a car from them (never would buy from a dealer now either!) and found 5 minor faults. Looking at the warranty I found that 4 were covered and one wasn't. I booked the car in, specifying each fault and even giving them a typed list. When I picked it up they had repaired the fault that wasn't covered and ignored the 4 that were.

When I brought this up, the guy shrugged and said, "Oh, well just bring it in next week then." I told him there was no way I was going to take another day off work and that it had to be on Saturday. "But the mechanics don't work Saturday," he said, to which I replied, "They damn well do now." And they did. That's the last time I visited a dealer.

there used to be a website called arnie sucks which detailed a LOT of issues with arnold clark. I've tried to find it and its no longer there so possibly maybe arnie has pulled his weight and forced it to be removed but i have heard many many woe stories regarding this chain.
