T-Mobile help!

I fairly recently (November 2009) upgraded my mobile with T-Mobile and had to enter a new 18 month contract. My problem is that I hate the phone and want to swap it for a different one. Ideally I would like the iPhone and I know that T-Mobile don’t advertise that the offer them but in some circumstances it is possible to obtain one.

What I would like to do is pay T-Mobile the extra and swap my phone for the iPhone. When I called them they just said it was impossible to change my phone for any other (I didn’t mention to them that I wanted iPhone) phone at all and would just have to keep it until the contract ended or alternatively, I can buy a pay as you go phone or any ‘unlocked’ T-Mobile phone and put my sim card in it but the guy I spoke to couldn’t guarantee that it would work ?!

My main question is if I buy an iPhone, ( I know they are hideously expensive) can I put my current sim card into it and will it work? The handset I have now is the HDT G2 Touch.

Thanks

All iPhone are locked to the network their sold on.
At the moment, I think, O2 are the only one to offer an unlock as soon as you buy. Once you have the phone, top it up with £15 and ask for the code, it comes through in a few days. Sync the phone on iTunes and it's unlocked.

You might want to hold off for a few weeks though. Apple have just announced the event where they release info on the new model (the 4G or HD) for June 7th. If they follow the pattern of the last 3 years the new one should be here in July which would mean (maybe) that the 3GS will fall in price as its superseded. . .
