Replace a normal interior by converting it into a sliding door!!!

Isnt the solution simple?
Affix some wood to the wall. The same material of which the door frame is made of. Paint it. A couple of inch screws through the running mechanism and into the wall should be more than enough to hold it right.
Again, like some people commented here....it wont look perfect, but its the only option i have. A couple of "professionals" who ive had round to have a look have quoted me in the region of £180, doing the exact same thing ive just said.0 -
im a joiner and there are a few factors you would need to look at before you start looing into this too greatly.
is the wall that the current door on timber/stud partition or brick?
i think the only way to do this to look anyway near decent is to have the door sliding into the partition so if its brick or load bearing then you are gubbed.
if its timber then how wide is the wall- check at the door frame. is there going to be enough room to get a track in there as well as the door and gyproc and framing material? there is a good 2 days work in that even if its do-able so thats £180-£200 not including the new door(you will need a new door by the way a repair on the old face wont work), track for sliding door, gyproc, timber....
What your saying does sound like 2 days work. But unfortunately its a load bearing wall...and there is no space to fit inside the wall. ive already exhausted that option.0 -

ok bus that doesnt really leave you many options. how about having the door swing out of the room?

The door can then be just hung on the face of the wall with no need for a lining or plasterwork.
£24 for the track from Screwfix, then add some timber or MDF for the pelmet, and a couple of recessed pull handles. £50 tops for materials and a no more than 1/2 days work
Where did you get 2 days from?
what should i use to fills the hinges/previous door handle space on the door.?..0 -

Looks like you have 3 options.
1. Using the external door with a more inferior finish having. Something you might regret in time.
2. Changing your sofa for a different one.
3. Do you have two doors in this room, another living room door from the hallway and the one in question leading into kitchen and also alternative access to kitchen presumably through the hallway? If so the option of filling the door way in and just using the other access doors. You could also include a small hatch if needed for passing food through etc.0 -
unfortunately thats the only door to the kitchen.!!!
Changing the sofa is also not an option. Bought it from DFS and they wont take them back
I dont think ill regret it...as i have no other option, unfortunately!0 -
cut the door in half, vertically?
