Cancelling Vodafone contract if moving abroad

Hi, I am leaving the UK for good and relocating to Spain. I signed a 24-month contract for an iPhone in February with VF one month before being told of my relocation.
I asked Vodafone if they could transfer my contract to Vodafone Spain to keep my handset and keep being their customer but they are telling me I can't cancel the UK contract (which sounds quite illegal to me since in all the rest of the EU countries when you leave the country for good, especially for work relocation, you can actually cancel the contract without fees) and have to pay the cost of the full remaining 20 months in advance...
Do you know if is there anything I can do avoid paying this amount? Thank you so much in advance for your help, I am pretty desperate :(

its not illegal you signed a contract for 24months, you have to pay for 24months.
I think you best bet is as suggested, sell your iphone to pay the remaining contract off then take out a new contract in Spain.

You cannot transfer your contract to Vodafone Spain since it an entirely separate company.

You will need to pay the entire 24 months, which you signed up for and agreed with Vodafone.

If you know of anyone who wants and iphone contract and who would be prepared to carry on with the repayments, Vodafone could do a 'transfer of ownership'. This would be on condition that the person taking over the contract passes Vodafone's credit check.

20 months left on a contract for probably around £35 = £700. I doubt you'd get that for a 4 month old iPhone anyway.

If you do decide you have to cancel, you do get a 25% early termination discount with Vodafone, and you dont pay any VAT since you will not be receiving a service.
