Advice on Virgin train e-ticket (Name doesn't coincide with credit card)
Options
I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right place but would be so grateful for ideas and advice..
I purchased two single tickets tonight from London to Manchester and selected the print at home option (e-ticket), unfortunately I put my name in as the lead passenger and put the card holder's name in passenger number 2. Therefore the tickets are not valid because the passenger name doesn't coincide with the cardholder's name (who will be traveling with me) and I am worried we will get asked to pay the full fare (100 pounds for the two of us possibly!). I have been in touch with sales support and they said it will be at the train manager's discretion to let us travel. I think this is really ridiculous! Anyway, I thought of the following possibilities:
a. Playing dumb and risking it (!)
b. Buying a news tickets
c. Getting a credit card in my name from the same account it was paid with, but would they have the same numbers? Only the last 4 digits have to coincide for the ticket inspector.
Anyway, sorry it turned into a long post, has anyone got any advice? Has this happened to anyone else before? Is it just something tricky to get people to re-buy their tickets? I think this is an easily made mistake and Virgin should give you some kind of option to correct it.
Thanks.

I can't ever remember being asked to show my CC as proof of payment when I've travelled with Virgin Trains. The train manager/inspector just asks to see the ticket, don't think they really care who or how they were paid for just so long as they are valid for your journey.ITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0

Thank you for your reply. I have read that quite a few people that haven't been able to produce credit card have been charged the full fare on day of travel. We will have the credit card but it's just hasn't got the right name on it!! I think it has got more strict with the e-ticket print at home option.
Any similar cases to mine??
Thanks.0 -

I don't quite understand this- not familiar with the e-ticket but surely if you put both passengers names in and one was the card holders name that would be enough? Indeed is it not just enough to have the card with you?0 -

Most of the problems I have read about credit cards and ticket issues have been related to ticket machine collections. When collecting tickets from a machine the card used when the booking was made has to be inserted into the machine to retrieve the transaction, if the card has been replaced, after it has been lost or stolen for example, the machine doesn't recognise it and this is what can cause problems.
As others have said this shouldn't be a problem as you will have the card with you, in the unlikely event that you are asked for it.0 -

Thank you so much for replying. My name is on both e-tickets because I am the lead passenger, which I think is strange because I put in two different passenger names when booking and only mine appears on both tickets. And in Virgin Trains terms and conditions the card holder's name has to coincide with the lead passenger.0
