Flamin' council and my recycling!

We had a similar problem with recycling boxes not being emptied. However, the council collection policy had changed so that the box has to be on the edge of your property. This means that the collection crew will not collect it if it's by your door, down your drive, through the back gate or wherever you used to leave it, even if it is only a few paces from your boundary. We also had a problem where they would only take stuff if it was in one of their boxes, (or bags in the case of green garden waste.) If it was in a non council approved bin, box, or bag (what great alliteration,) it didn't get taken.
To make matters worse, it had to be on your property. If you put it on the footpath you got a letter telling you off.
Suggest you check first that your council have not changed to a similar policy, and also confirm the date and time for your collection. Once you have confirmed that you are doing everything correctly, then you can ask for a return visit for your items to be taken and also ensure they continue to be collected on the appointed day.
I applaud your efforts at saving the planet and I too get annoyed when I'm thwarted in my efforts. Like you say, it's even more annoying when non-renewable fuel has to used to make the additional journey to collect a missed pick-up.

It's a kerb collection so it's all present and correct on my part, it's just them!

My Mum once saw a recycling collector come up onto the drive open a black bin bag and empty her recycling into it and then dump it on to the pile of refuse bags in the street for the usual binmen. She rang the council and went balistic! They said that the cart was full of everyone else's recycling and they didn't have the room for anymore!
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!
  • You don't live in Durham by any chance do you? When I lived in the city centre it took months for me to get a box. I only got one because my husband (then boyfriend) had a broken ankle and couldn't work so had time to keep emailing them with details of where my wheelie bin was kept etc. Eventually they agreed I could have one but they wouldn't deliver it as I was out all day at work but they agreed to deliver to boyfriend who was at home with his broken ankle. The first time it was meant to be emptied it wasn't so I contacted them and they sent a man in a little van to empty it. After that they never emptied it the remaining 8 months I lived there despite my sending them e-mails about it. In the end when I moved out, my boyfriend took the stuff and put it in his green box (I didn't produce much waste). The most infuriating part was that they kept publishing figures saying they provided 100% kerbside recycling collection.

Recycling is just the latest excuse to tax people more - your council tax is going up because .......la la la...It especially grating seeing those patronising 'your paper could be made into something else in 7 days time' - rubbish, most of it gets carted of to China for them to dispose of it
