Flamin' council and my recycling!

I NEED to vent!
I am sick and tired of putting my recycling box out only for it to still be full after the truck has done it's rounds! I put it out in full view, so how on earth can they miss it!
I can't throw the stuff out as I feel VERY guilty. All I want to do is help towards saving the damn planet! I wouldn't mind but paying council tax of nearly a grand a year and not getting the services really gets my goat! I've also got tons of plastic bottles that I can't face chucking as they can so easily be recycled. I don't have a car and don't relish the thought of carrying ten black bags of junk on the bus! There are recycling bins about half a mile down the road but they won't all fit on the bloody pram! and they recycle exactly the same thing as the trucks pick up!
I know I should ring the council but I wanted to air my view here first!!!

huh, I'd be very angry too if that happened to me.
They skipped my garbage once and I went mad. I can't just bring it back again! I sent an e-mail to the council through their website and, after a couple more mortifying days they came round specifically to retrieve it.
I come from a place where garbage gets picked up every single night and the idea of putting it out just once a week took some time to be used to, let alone what I felt the day I saw it was still there.
(Don't take me wrong about that other place... it doesn't mean it's cleaner or better managed. Not at all.)
A couple of times I've forgotten to take out the recycling bin and I'd hit the wall with my head for that later.

My council provide half the town (the most affluent parts) with recycling whilst us peasants have none other than trod off to the other end of the nearby supermarket car park on foot, because they must provide this valuable service more conveniently for owners of motor vehicles.
I pay £900 for band A council tax. I can understand your vent most councils are a bloody disgrace when it comes efficently let alone services.
I just got back from hols in Northumberland where they do provide a decent service, shame my council seem to justify there scandalous council tax of £900 per annum by providing little value for money0 -
My council are obviously on the ball, as I understand from a neighbour who has phoned them, that if they miss a collection & you call them they arrange for the men to call back for it, usually later that day.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I thought you could phone most councils up to collect things if they'd missed them?
That may have been something my mum told me - she came down a couple of years back to visit and there was a dead cat in between ours and the next driveway so she phoned the council and got them to come and get it!Check out www.fancyanargument.com :T0 -
if they miss you out ring them up and they will come back. I try to recycle when I am going to the shops and stick it on my buggy. Sometimes it takes a few trips but as I am currently on a diet. I can use the exercise to eat extra food and save the planet.
I realise that not everyone has the time to do this. So sorry it this seems like a partonizing post. It wasn't written with that intention0 -
I know that I can ring them it just seems a complete waste of time to get 2 workers and the van to come all the way back to where they've just been to and empty a box of cans, well it's getting to a mountain now I've got bags and bags of it!0

Our council have recently started a recycling scheme. We were given a lidded plastic box which we put glass and cans into. We were given labels to stick on the box (and the new wheely bins) to write your house number on so that (presumably) you'd get the same box (or bin) back, that you put out. I put the box out on Sunday night for collection on Monday morning, and when I went out to bring it back in after it had been emptied, there was no sign of the box, the lid was balanced on top of the wheely bin. I walked up and down the road a couple of times to see if I could find our box, eventually I spotted a lidless box outside a house across the street, and could see that their box (complete with lid) was in their yard. I claimed the lidless box and brought it back here. The box had a label that said number 8 on it. The house it was outside was number 19. When I brought it in, mum pointed out that it had another label on the other side that said 17! I still don't know what happened to OUR box, but we've got one at least. You'd think the idea of labelling the boxes with your house number is that they'd give you the box back once they'd emptied it. Useless!

Maybe it's just a coincidence but mine went missing too! I had to ring a FREEPHONE number and get another, it's not exactly a hard task. It seems a little ironic that the recycling box thief was good hearted enough to recycle but couldn't be ar*ed to get one themselves and had mine away:mad: :rolleyes:0 -
We had a similar problem with recycling boxes not being emptied. However, the council collection policy had changed so that the box has to be on the edge of your property. This means that the collection crew will not collect it if it's by your door, down your drive, through the back gate or wherever you used to leave it, even if it is only a few paces from your boundary. We also had a problem where they would only take stuff if it was in one of their boxes, (or bags in the case of green garden waste.) If it was in a non council approved bin, box, or bag (what great alliteration,) it didn't get taken.
To make matters worse, it had to be on your property. If you put it on the footpath you got a letter telling you off.
Suggest you check first that your council have not changed to a similar policy, and also confirm the date and time for your collection. Once you have confirmed that you are doing everything correctly, then you can ask for a return visit for your items to be taken and also ensure they continue to be collected on the appointed day.
I applaud your efforts at saving the planet and I too get annoyed when I'm thwarted in my efforts. Like you say, it's even more annoying when non-renewable fuel has to used to make the additional journey to collect a missed pick-up.
