We are getting a bit miffed because our solicitor has still not been sent the draft details of the property that we are buying. (over one month on)
We have rung the estate agent who told the vendor- who said he had filled all the forms on and sent them to his solicitor- but our solicitor has spoken to their solicitor who says that they are waiting for a form (this has been going on for 2 weeks) he said she said blaa blaa!
Is it possible that the vendor is stalling?
We have access to the vendors phone number- is it ok to call them and politely ask about the draft details situation or is it advisable to just wait?

I`m not sure of the correct procedure but if i were in your shoes then i would definitely be calling the vendor.
When we bought our last place we called ours several times, quicker to get the answers/results that you are waiting for and probably cheaper too.
Good luck.

Sh*t does that mean all the calls to the solicitor we are being charged for????! :eek:please excuse my username- my husband set it to the email account when he was young free and stooooopid0 -
There are no hard and fast rules regarding contacting the vendors. I am in the process of selling my home and if there was a problem I would rather the buyer contacted me direct and get things moving. Go ahead and ring them - they are probably wondering why things are taking so long nd are probablybeimng kept in the dark themselves.Middlers0

That depends on your solicitor, some charge for every tiny thing including every call some arn`t nearly as strict.
As middlers says give them a call they could be wondering the same things and it could be one of the solicitors being a bit lax.

It would be unusual for the vendor to stall, I would have thought. Surely they want to sell the place as easily and quickly as possible under normal circumstances?
When we sold our house last time we had many phone calls between us and the buyer and, because their solicitor was less than brilliant (to put it kindly) we sorted out several problems between to two of us then our buyer told their solicitor what was what and kept things moving. Our solicitor sent us a 'thank you' e-mail at the end of it all because she couldn't get any sense out of her counterpart and had been getting really frustrated!
Give them a call and test the water, I say. They're only people after all.0 -
thanks people- i think thats made my mind up then. We will ring the our solicitor to check to see of the draft details have turned up 2mo and if they have not then we are getting hold of the number and ringing the vendors.please excuse my username- my husband set it to the email account when he was young free and stooooopid0

I wish I'd been able to call the vendor of the property I'm buying - our offer was accepted at the start of December and we're only nearing exchange now some 6 months later! Turns out the vendor's solicitor was utterly useless, did nothing, didn't communicate with the vendor... but has now 'left' his practice so finally things are moving. Still wonder why the vendor didn't push for things to be happening quicker, as it was a rental property and he presumably wants the cash for something else (never met him so no idea!)0

When a solicitor is talking on the phone/sorting out queries they are working. Someone has to pay for their time. Unless you have a fixed price deal that someone is you. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

of course, strange you are not already in touch, as you are buying his house, and will want to know his forwarding address once the deal is done too.
call them and ask awayMy posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -
Always call the vendor if you think you can get on good terms with them from previous meetings at viewings. Having 'Chinese whispers' through solicitors is only sensible if your vendor is weird or has never shown themselves.
When we were buying, the vendor's solicitors were instructed to reveal important and sensitive info to ours, but decided, in their infinite wisdom, not to. Everything got a little bit fraught as a result, and yet a ten minute 'phone call from us to the vendor put everything right.
Apart from the above, once communication was established, we benefited from being asked directly if we'd like various things left behind.0
