Freeview HD

My apologies if this has already been posted somewhere else...

Freeview -HD channels have just become available in our area, so on Saturday I retuned our telly (HD ready 1080p with built in freeview about a year old) expecting to pick them up.. No luck.
After digging around on the internet I discovered the problem is that my TV may be 'HD ready' but It won't get freeview HD because it doesn't have freeview HD built in... just standard freeview. In order to get that I will need a seperate Freeview HD box which costs about £150
Grrrrr
This has made me wonder.. How many people have seen that freeview HD is rolling out and have gone to buy a new TV so they can watch it, asked the salesman nicely if they will be able to watch HD on it, which of course they will reply yes, only to get it home and discover that you can't.. well not on freeview anyway.

I looked at the Argos box, and it is for Freesat not Freeview!

Earlier this year Humax was the only box available, but others are coming out. I am sure that the prices will drop soon: check eBay.

I am in the same position myself: I am waiting for more models and cheaper prices. In any case, apparently if you have good reception and a small TV, the difference can hardly be seen.

That is why you should avoid the big high street TV retailers ! They talk through their ******s !

There are a few TVs with built in Freeview HD - but of course the salesmen have to sell all the old stock first

And now you know what HD-Ready means - you can disply HD on the screen if you plug in an HD source.

Unfortunately this also applies to TVs labelled "full HD" !

Apologies if a stupid question, but would I also also need to buy a new aerial to get Freeview HD? I currently have a freeview aerial.

If you can get the Freeview channels, you should be able to get the HD channels, no change required.
