HSBC error- and I just had a hissy fit

:o
Is this in right place?

So got a latter this morning from HSBC saying they had deducted £110 from my account- due to error.

No more than that other than to say call a number below should I need more explanation.
So I did.
Was on hold 27 mins while they faffed....
(which is probably why I lost my temper when i did get an answer)
Seems their error was putting £110 into my account - 3 weeks later they realised and removed it.
I said this is not good enough- i had assumed the money in MY account was all MINE and could well have spent it (haven't but thats beside the point)......
So i am arguing that if they mistakenly put money into peoples accounts then they should have to take the hit......

I am probably being very nasty but I was wound up by then and had a real hissy fit and have lodged a very large complaint which is now under review.

Will I get anywhere?
Has anyone else had this type of thing happen?

So a random £110 came into your account that you weren't expecting.
HSBC realised it was a mistake and 3 weeks later took the money.
    You had spent the money.

Moral of the story - don't spend money if you don't know its yours. Query it with the bank.

So you knew about the original £110 going in?

it went in the same day i had made a payment in, i assumed that it was one of my payments as i paid them in in batches as used the coin machine, cash machine to pay in both in same day

I work freelance so get paid cash and make lots of odd trips to the bank, i would not have noticed that I was £110 up!!

The paid in statements I tend to skim over- its the Paid out bit i scrutinise!!

Can honestly say that I had not seen that I was Up £110 more than I should have been. I just assumed that the money in MY account was actually MINE- is that so wrong?!

    Why not?
If I make mistakes in my business I do not expect my customers to be out of pocket- which is what I would be had I spent all the money in my account.

If they took £110 out in error would you write it off?

You need to keep a tight check on what is coming in and what is coming out of your bank account.

It's upto you to notice anything that doesn't look right.

You only noticed it because it has come back out of your account, but as you didn't notice it go in and have't spent any of it, what is the problem?

I keep a running total each week in my diary of what is going in and coming out.
