New Motability Vehicle
lyniced

I have to change my motability vehicle in the next few months. At the moment I have Renault Scenic Grand. It's a nice car, but have new requirements.
I drive sometimes, but prefer my husband to do most of the driving, as my condition has deteriorated recently.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to a good car to get. It needs to have a big enough boot to house a wheelchair/scooter and be an automatic. Any ideas?

I drive a Nissan Note and it accommodates a wheelchair easily. I think someone on another thread said that their parents can fit their scooter in the boot. It comes in manual or automatic.0

we've got a citroen C4 grand picasso which i get my sterling diamond scooter in, my other half has to dismantle it but if you had the back seats down it would go in easy. the deposit wasn't too bad either0

Vauxhall Astra Estate is my choice.0

I believe that at the moment the Vauxhall Insignia 2ltr cdti is a nil advance payment and the Ford Mondeo 1.8 Zetec tdci has a £299 advance payment. Both of these vehicles have nice large boots.0

A friend of mine raves about the Nissan Note - what is the fuel comsumption like?Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0 -
I do lots of very short journeys, so I don't get the best fuel consumption. I'm not very good on the technical stuff. It's a 1.6 engine and it uses less fuel than my last car, a 1.4 Rover, if that's any help. The Nissan or Motability websites should be able to tell you more, but it would just sail straight over my head.
A neighbour across the road bought a Note after seeing mine, and I've been approached by a few people on a local car park to ask about it - it's definitely a talking point. Storage is excellent. I've got the Tekna, with manual gears. It was £250 advance payment in October 2007, but the automatic was nil advance payment. It was delivered a week after ordering, and Nissan were really helpful.
It's a smooth drive and I've had no problems at all, except for a couple of punctures. I'd definitely recommend it.0 -

Thanks for that - very helpful. Because it looks smaller than the average MPV, I thought storage would be compromised, but would you say I would need to fold any seats down to get a scooter in? At present my husband takes the chair off the scooter to get into the Scenic, which is not a problem, so as long as we can still do that then it would be fine.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0 -
I guess I'm so unsure about getting a new car, as its for 3 years and therefore it has to be right! ALthough the Scenic is ok, it kind of lumbers and is heavy on fuel (we could only get 2.0 in automatic) so I guess all that has to be taken into consideration.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0

I recently got a Mercedes B class auto, it takes my wheelchair easily in the boot without having to take the wheels off.0
