Has anyone any experience of buying a payg phone from these people (from the internet) looked at some reviews and got very bad write ups but they are the only people that have the phone that i like.
Not sure whether to risk it or wait for another phone somewhere else?

Why were the reviews bad? Is it something relelveltnt to you (ie if they are reviewed as being bad at cashback does that count to you).
PAYG usually comes as a a sealed box, and everything in it, so theres not much to go wrong.0 -
Bought 2 from them for my kids - one did not come with preloaded credit as billed quick phone call and they sorted it
They are as good as any mail order phone company that I've used
One phone died after 2 months - not their fault and as after quidco it was only £5 I just replaced itTANSTAAFL !0 -
The reviews were on faulty phones, mainly contract but would that make a difference.
And apparently they open the phones to check them and connect them to send them so they are not sealed.0 -
I prefer Carphone Warehouse, they aren't after the hard sell and want to sell a phone you're going to use, not resent as it's expensive (says she who went in there yesterday and tried two phones out before settling on one)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

Not really, depends how they were faulty. If it arrived unsealed then you send it back as not as required under the DSR. It may be some are refubs sold as new, (in which case you return it) or some people ordered a refurb and were hoping to get a new one.
Anything PAYG will most likely come as a sealed box from the network0 -

It actually states on their website all payg phones come opened and already connected, never experienced this before, usually buy from orange store, sealed boxes etc.0 -
Not impressed with them. I purchased a PAYG iPhone (on Orange). On the second charge, the phone REALLY headed up then went dead. Took it back to the shop for a replacement. Not chance, they said - take it up with Orange, or Apple but it;s nothing to do with us.
I pointed out that SOGA applied, and that the problem was their. Arguments ensued with calls to the area manager then HO. They were not for honouring their obligations - and I have no respect for them for trying this on.
I said I wasn't leaving unless I got a replacement (ne) or a refund. After 10 minutes they agreed to credit the phone I bought, and refunded the payment, then provided another, and charged me for that.
You have to ask why they did this merry dance...? If you're not the forceful type, they'll send you on your way....0 -

I have never ordered a phone from Phones4u website, however I have purchased from their store. All or most pay as you go phones are priced based on a £10/£20 top up with the network you purchase the phone on.
When I have purchased the pay as you go phone instore, they open the box and load the credit onto the new sim card. I think they do this, so you don't try to exchange/refund the airtime credit for your preferred network. You may wonder why they don't purchase the phone on the network they are originally on. Well if you look at the prices of different pay as you go phones you will see their is different prices for each network. So some people buy the phone on the cheapest network then get it unlocked.
If you ask nicely they will load the credit onto your own sim card if it is the same network but obviously they can't do this when purchasing the phone online so they open the boxes to load the credit onto the simcard.
Here is an example of the different prices for different networks: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/choose-tariff/BLACKBERRY-CURVE-8520/PPAY/NEWA home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0
