Thanks, I remember going to site a while back and there were some new things that were released not reviewed. I assumed it was inactive, I'll have to have a look at the site again now :)

its also worth looking at the camera 'lag' or process time, i need to know this, as its no good taking pics of a whale jumping out the water only to find its gone back in on your photo!
if anyone can recommend a good review site, that explains this i would be greatful.

Would that in itself not be the shutter speed?

As you mention zoom and video in your original post here is another suggestion for you though it is at the top end of your budget - the Panasonic Lumix TZ-7 which you can now get for £199.99 at Amazon.

It has a x12 optical zoom and extremely good HD video. Have a look at the reviews on the sites mentioned previously.

By the way don't get hung up on megapixels. I have blown up 4mp photos to small poster size and they look great. 5mp is really all you need unless you do lots of cropping. A camera that gives a blurry image will still be blurry whether 100 pixels or 1000 pixels make up the blurred spot!

    Thanks I'll take a look

One of the benefits of buying a camera for around £200 is the fact that they're always usually around 10MP or more which is more than enough, anything else is a bonus :)

I will add my agreement to the forget-about-mega-pixels on a point and shoot/bridge camera. anything over 8mp is a total waste. Forget digital zoom this is a waste also. I will echo the others and say get a good quality lens. This is the important thing with a p&s camera

Any camera you look at, I would suggest having a look on www.trustedreviews.com for it. That is one of the best tech review sites I know of

No not entirely,it is the time the processor chip takes to capture the image,on the cheaper cameras this can be a real problem i used the fish jumping out the water as an example all digital cameras suffer from this i think, but i am after one that minimises this problem, advice anyone?

The reviews on www.dpreview.com usually give details about lag times, for example:

I would never buy a camera with an lcd less than 3inches. In the digital age we always show people the pictures we have taken and it's great to do it on a large lcd.
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!
