Wi fi via a mobile

I posted this over on the techie board but i am thinking i maybe should have put it here instead :( Anyway...

This is probably going to sound rather daft to those of you in the know...

If a mobile phone can access the internet via a wi-fi connection and said mobile phone tarrif includes X amount of internet data stuff (all technical terms!) then when surfing the web via a wi fi connection (i.e. via the wireless router at home for example) would this surfing come off the alowance in the mobile phone contract or would it not be included as it as using the wi-fi???

I hope that makes sense to someone - hope this is in the right section!!

Thanks in advance

Anna :)
