The time taken to despatch cards varies between lenders.
If this is your first credit card, it's best to make a few small purchases each month and get into the routine of settling the balance in full, well before the date payment is due. This costs you nothing.
After a year or so, you'll be able to ask for a higher credit limit or apply for a new card with a lower interest late. Mind you, the interest rate is irrelevant really, if you always pay off your balance each month!
