in Credit cards
I called HSBC to get their 0% card yesterday but I didnt get it, but they offered me another card at 22.9%
They said I need to go into a branch with proof of ID and a utility bill and sign the forms, I dont have any bills in my name????? What can I do?
Will they refuse me??

Will they refuse me??
The short answer is Yes.
Are you on the electoral roll?
If you are eligible, I would strongly advise you to register. This costs you nothing. Not being on the electoral roll has other consequences, aside from obtaining credit cards.
Have you a telephone bill or similar due shortly?
Why not contact a provider and ask for bills to be addressed to you in future? Not having at least one utility bill in your name is a disadvantage, which is easily rectified.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
No I am not on the electrol roll, I keep meaning to do it, I will go Monday. None of the billsare in my name but I can get them changed into my name, will I be accepted if I have a bill do you think?0

There's normally no need to visit in person.
If you key the name of your borough plus 'electoral roll' into google, it'll take you to the relevant page on your council website.
Most local authority websites are set up so you can register online or download a form. Incidently, the same form can usually be used for change of address, if you've moved and change of name - for instance, if you've married recently. Will I be accepted if I have a bill do you think
Only HSBC knows the answer to that, but it's well worth doing anyway. Not having at least one utility bill in your name has other consequences, aside from obtaining credit cards, and it's so easy to put right.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Those are the documents HSBC will accept

Well, mid-September is not far off now, is it?
Ageandjo is not in a hurry to apply for credit. A has stated in an earlier post that he/she would like a credit card "just in case"
Some MSEs do not have a passport and not everyone drives.
The important point to stress is that registering is easy & free and, providing you do not move house frequently, being on the electoral roll obviates the need to produce these documents every time you apply for credit.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
Yes it's a 'just in case card'
I do have the following items that I could take.
Passport
Bank statements HSBC business scc and another account with another bank)
Sky bill ( in my name )
Is this enough??? Or shall I not bother ?? and wait until I am on the electrol roll??0 -
Is this enough???
Once again, only HSBC knows the answer, but it looks as though you've met its requirements.
Let us know how you get on.
Very best

Thanks for your help, I will go tomorrow and take what I have with my name and address on it but I am not too bothered if they refuse me it's not as if I need the card. I think they just wanted verification of my address, wait and see.......0
