BE dont, in 3 odd years i have never been less than 350gb in a month

they are truely superb, and there support are real techs in this country as well

Completely agree. I'm with Be on the unlimited package and never had any problems. They are a bit more expensive than the mainstreat providers but you're paying for the higher quality service e.g. speed, support and uptime. If asked they will look for ways to improve your connection speed, by trying different line configurations and settings to squeeze the absolute max out of your line. No mainstream or budget provider will even entertain this.

Just because they are owned by, or part of O2 does not mean they will offer the exact same services. Example of this is O2 only offer up to 20mbps, Be offer 24mbps. Also it's not strictly true that they simply piggyback O2, Be have their own hardware at the exchanges, they are not just reselling O2 broadband.

O2 will not allow you play around with your line configuration to achieve optimal performance like Be do. O2 will set the line up to be on the most stable configuration and leave it at that.

    Without sounding stupid here,

Who the hell are BE ? The acronym doesn't ring any bells for ISP's off hand

I'm with BT, on Option 3, so theoretically I'm "unlimited" until they deem it to hammer their network then their so called "fair usage" applies......

Bandwidth usage can vary, depending if people watch movies, play online games, download torrents, download updates, etc..... however the ISP's are already aware of who does what anyway because they have Deep Packet Inspection

I think my normal bandwidth usage is around 50GB+ per month so being an Option 3 is good for me, Windows updates alone tends to suck up at about 3-5GB per month for me so I couldn't go with light packages.

P.S - Boo for crappy internet speeds with BT, 3000 Down / 468k Up :(

They are a specialist ISP, part of/owned by O2 but they run their own equipment. They have a very good reputation for speed and support and many people report no issues even as megadownloaders (like 350gb+ per month), see https://www.bethere.co.uk

They will offer advice on the line configuration in order to achieve maximum speed and stability.

Sounds good, if they operate their own equipment they can have some decent carriers in place. I just checked, for me I'm better off with BT :(

You can get BE broadband on xxxxxxx
It's probably going to be this fast:

    4 megs*
This estimate is based on from data supplied by BT
Buy a BE broadband package NOW

Ah well, good thing BT offshored their tech support to India, I don't have to deal with them and when I do they go work on the basis of customer always right :D

It's still a nightmare getting my hub-phone however that I should have got free 2+ years ago

EDIT - 1 Static IP, that's definately a bonus though with BE Pro :D

What speed do you get with BT? Have a look at this site, enter your postcode and it shows the speed and ISP of your neighbours Internet connections. See if someone has Be in the area to get another indication of what speed you might get: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/broadband_speed_in_my_area.aspx

    Thanks,

Already checked it out, speed varies, some are on .5MB and some are on 3.5MB

Nobody uses BE (in my immediate area) they're all on Sky / Talk Talk. The problem with where I live is that I'm at the maximum distance from the exchange, I believe BT are currently upgrading the exchange and the local junction boxes ready for ADSL Max2 which is scheduled to be released in 2011 where I live.... so hopefully should get better speeds next year, in which case I might rethink my crap ISP

This is my exchange btw BE operator enabled,...
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NEHT

The main problem with all these carriers is that they are still using BT's equipment and BT cap their uploads to 468KB/s, so if these other ISP's are using the BT Exchange and don't get them upgraded all the upload speeds will still be capped. Doesn't bother me too much but it's still a pig if you have a website or host a game server. Not that I have any :D
