Does anyone know where I could get some properly fitted pump type shoes, no bar, for a 12 yr old. Clarks don't do them.Failing that at least some that don't slop at the sides like boats!

I don't think you will get 'properly fitted' slip on shoes without a strap/bar, they're not good for children's feet due to the lack of anything to hold them on, hence the flapping about like boats!. Plenty of fashion shoes shops should have them though.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Yes I know loads of fashion shoes ( she has some for 3 to 4 hour use), was wondering if it would matter for a term and also am I being overly uptight, she is 12, but only has size 31/2 to size 4 feet and I don't think they have stopped growing yet. Clarks range says for age 9 to 12, but go upwards of size 6. Basically have her feet stopped growing enough to not cause problems with young flexible bones?0

Patchwork, I too have a 12 year old dd, and after her lifetime of me being anal about start-rite etc shoes, it's only now she's at high school that I've loosened off a bit. Believe it or not, I got her some cracking pumps for school in Asda of all places! Decent sole (not paper thin like a lot in the shops just now) and no gaping sides, the apron comes far enough up her foot that she's not clenching her toes to keep them on, all leather and they only cost £12!! DD walks too and from school every day and they've been great for her.
She had these ones last year, her last year of primary school

I work in a shoe shop, and I've found at around age 12/13 children's feet are almost finished growing, though the bones keep fusing until they are 17.
How about something like these? http://www.barratts.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product1_10055_-1_136911_10553
They are a little pricey, but they are so comfy.*insert witty comment here*0 -

Be careful, ds school banned them as they are too flimsey for school
Some students are wearing completely unsuitable shoes in terms of comfort, protection from the weather and health and safety. Our uniform policy asks for black shoes. The shoes need to be substantial enough to protect the wearer from the cold and rain. They also need to be securely fastened to the foot for health and safety reasons. Black canvas plimsolls and ‘dolly’ shoes/ballet pumps are not appropriate. These shoes have very thin soles and nothing to keep them secured to the foot.0 -

The linky to the rocket ones the apron (is it?) is too low you would see the join of her toes and she finds them uncomfortable. So the crux is she is probably OK for a bit, but go for firmer ones? I don't mind for 'home' shoes and she has awful uggs! deck shoes and slip on pumps from new look, but just for 7 hours a day and a mile and half walk, I worried. My poor DS had to wear proper fitting until 15! She won't stand for that, though!
The ones she has just have a little strap, but she wants to lose that.
We aren't early developers, but she probably only has a year or so of growth left in her feet.0 -
I have some that aren't black (they're grey) that are more like trainers but in a pump style that I got from Cotton Traders of all places - they're marketed as "outdoor shoes"... seriously disgustingly comfy if you could find similar in a suitable colour for school (I get away with mine as they're not trainers - but I'm the teacher so don't have to wear black!).
Other place I had some from that lasted quite a while in that sort of style - was New Look a few seasons ago.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

We have also had these Startrite Rhino shoes, along with another model that has a crossover strap. Personally I like the design, the fact they are width fitted and think they are perfect for the Summer term, but they don't last as long as other more sturdy shoes (from memory, about a term.)0
