O2 and a big direct debit mess

Can anyone offer any useful thoughts:
  • Bought upgrade from O2 but cancelled within the 14 day period (have emails and receipts to prove this)
  • O2 decide to bill me for early cancellation and then say sorry, our mistake, the DD will be cancelled and you won't pay
  • they take £338 from my bank; my bank refund under the DD guarantee scheme
  • O2 say sorry, will send credit to bank
  • O2 send credit to my account
  • bank takes back the money as it is theirs as they refunded the DD
  • O2 claim I have their money and want it back saying the original DD failed but it went from my account!
So where might this missing money be? Bank or O2. It isn't with me and I am going slowly mad and cannot return the same money to both bank and O2! (I have tried to keep detail as brief as possible)

Go talk to someone in the bank, get the order things happened and WRITE not email or phone this to o2. Letters tend to be logged better than email or phone calls and you can get it down in the order you want.
