Hi
Following on from my previous thread (website design help) could i get some feedback on the website i have had designed. It would really give me some independant unbiased feedback and would be great to get constructive feedback on the layout and content etc before it goes live.

it looks quite good (1st impression); however there is alot of writing on the first page which I did start reading but stopped once I saw how much there was.
Links are good and pictures of the types of poor workmanship is interesting.
Hope that helps0 -

Thanks for taking the time to look0 -
Yeah, IMO there is too much writing crammed into each page.
"Quality Assured Inspections was set up by.............." should be on its own page in my opinion.0 -
It works perfectly in Opera 8 which is nice

I like the design and layout. However, there are two really niggly points (me just being pedantic
)
http://csnewmedia.co.uk/clients/qai/aboutus.html
the 't' on the end of the "free support" header doesn't look like it's in bold?
http://csnewmedia.co.uk/clients/qai/defects.html
Mis-spelling of 'brickwork'. Also, again really pedantic point, but maybe think about whether you want every main word capitalised (such as 'Poor Mastic To Door Frame') or if you just want the first one capitalised (eg 'Poor finish to mastic'), just for consistency purposes.
As I said, apart from that, I really like the design - clean, simple and easy to navigate

Also,

Any professional designer should be writing valid code, I'd want that sorted out on every page before parting with any money.0 -
I agree the Home page is little busy with so much text but I understood what the site 'business' is marketed at within a few seconds of visiting the website. It is well laid out and easy to use. I did like the photographic examples of typical defects.
I was not keen on the banner picture at the top of the 'About Us' page. The male on the right hand side of the banner put me off (hope it's not you and sorry if I have offended anyone - it reminds me of the baker on Coronation Street).
A few minor points that can easily be rectified --
On the About Us page there is a double space in the 4th line down text between the words 'there is' and 'a requirement'.
On the Defect Examples page, if you click on the thumbnail of the 'Poor finish to Mastic' and then read the text superimposed on the image you will see the text has been typed on twice in different fonts.
On the Links page (selected from the bottom right of the Home page) the italic text 'but as we are a truely independent' has the word truly with an incorrect spelling.
Sorry if some of the last points are a little picky but in the market you're in attention to detail is paramount. I wish you the very best of luck with the site and your business.0 -
With regard to the photos, if I'd been designing your website I'd probably have taken the text off each photo and used something else to display what the defect is as I don't think it looks professional enough.
Just my opinion though.0 -
Well, I normally get a bit of criticism for being overly blunt when I do reviews on the small business forum I am a member of but on your site there isnt that much to say really.....
Agree with others, there is far too much text on the site especially the home page. Also the text font was a little too small for my tastes. There was too much text for me to actually read it all so wont comment on the copy.
Whilst the site is clean and simple there isnt really much "design" to it at all which does make it a little bland and I would be concerned about how the site will stand out against the competition as it is fairly forgetable.
FAQ could do with some more questions added like what area you cover.
The photos of the defects arent great as the depth of field seems to be too shallow eg http://csnewmedia.co.uk/clients/qai/pages/5_jpg.htm the light is in focus but the actual defect isnt. On these pages I feel the images are far too large, if they were cropped and shrunk a little you could still clearly see the defect but it would be able to also fit in the normal template so that you get a consistant look to the site. I think it would also be worth considering adding some text to these pages saying something along the lines of what the problem is and more importantly how much it would cost/ how much hassle it would be to fix it.
Not knowing anything about the industry - are there any kite marks, trade association symbols, quality marks or such that your company has that you could display on the home page to give customers confidence that you are acreditted? All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

The website looks nice but you can tell it's not been done professionally at all. The coding is done in tables which are very outdated and will not look good on a variety of browsers. There are a lot of coding errors as you can tell and I'd definitely want that sorted before you hand over any money.0
